Pencil Vs Camera - 61

NEW: Prints now available!

This is a photo I took during my trip in Spain, while I was walking the
"Camino de Santiago de Compostela" (some 700 hundreds kilometers
in a few weeks). I met some amazing pilgrims during this journey.

I also made the drawing. If you wish, you can view here the work in
progress, some details and the scene from another angle.

The other woman walking in the distance is an important element in
the composition of this picture. The guy on the rocks is attracted by
a beautiful but fake holy creature. In my view, the person with the red
backpack symbolizes the real and genuine LOVE... but it is actually
going away from him. Hopefully he will take the right decision before
it's too late (it's just my own interpretation, I understand you might
see something completely different, I even encourage this).

All about You

A poem by Peter S. Quinn

It is all about you
Every day that I wake
Like a symphony new
In its moment and take
Every dream that's awhile
Of the echoes go
Form and its somber style
That we both now know

It is all about love
Every day and dark night
Moving clouds of above
Till the sun comes up bright
Every wandering going by
In their trips and desire
Burning sun setting sky
That's in the glow of its fire

Love is all about this
That you keep and you long
Like a morning freshly bliss
In a springtime new song
All that comes and is staying
With its gold spurring thought
In the times of its saying
That each love has on taught

Your pencil vs camera works are legendary! I first found them on stumble upon and am proud to be critiquing them though I can't find anything wrong with them.

This is an intensely deep picture, I like how mystic and exotic the paper woman is, and the broken heart also adds a lot to the meaning. It appears as though be piled up those rocks one by one in order to reach up to this beautiful woman and not only did she break his heart but she is not even real. While he is chasing this fantasy, A woman so walking by and he could miss her (perhaps the woman he is meant to be with?) I am amazed at the skill and thought that wend into this piece of art!! You are an insanely talented artist. Keep being amazing

It has the classic use of the colour blue for the background, and the texture of the clouds creates a very interesting effect; stormy, with clear skies peaking through from behind.

The almost-bleak blues complement the colours of the rock pile and the grass nicely: colour wise, the only things that really stand out is the grass in the foreground and the red backpack that the person, presumably a woman, in the midground is wearing.

The composition isn't 100%. The lines of the mountains and the clouds on the right help to draw the eye off the picture to try and see the wrist that is holding up the sketch.

The sketch is an intriguing choice - at first I thought the woman was supposed to be an embodiment of mother nature, and that the broken heart was supposed to show some sort of symbolism in accordance with the person walking away. (Is the man choosing between his love of nature and his love for the person?) Seeing Cupid though, I decided that the woman in the sketch is probably Aphrodite (with a similar back-story).

The symbolism of the person walking down the long road that seemingly goes on forever hints at a break-up or rejection of some kind, either emotionally or mentally. This is supported by the broken heart that Aphrodite and the man is holding.

While I really like this piece it is not my favourite of your Pencil VS Camera collection, though I do believe it to be a very successful example of art.

i really love the creativeness of this peace and how it can be seen from multiply perspective, the clouds are beatiful and i really like the light in the distance.
i really like how the drawing is in the shape of a card and the cupid really adds a nice touch. this is one of the works where someone would really have to look at it and pay attention to the contents to try and figure our the message.
the background is beautiful and i love how the mans arm becomes drawn, i can tell this you rewally too your time with this and it was worth it, great work (:

i really like it i think nothing is wrong with it. the way everything goes together makes things more superb. the fog of the mountains goes with the pencil work. i think it is excellent. the scenery is perfect for this picture. she is laying on a cloud and it is very cloudy so it goes together.and if i had to say something was wrong it would be the random green doesn't really go because everything is dry and that is the only green bush.i don't mean to be to out there but critique was truly was beautiful.

thanks for the critique... yes the green bush... Actually this shot was taken in Galicia in Spain, it's a very humid region... So there are lots of plants here and there

This photo itself is already a visionary piece, so the addition of the pencil art makes for an interesting artistic composition. What is intriguing about the pencil art is that while it doesn't seem to belong in the original photo, it gives us a clue into the psyche, persona, and mental state of the subject. Why has this woman appeared in his thoughts, replacing his magnificent view of this real-world scene with her portrait?

Technically, the photograph itself is excellent. The depth of the background is, in a word, striking. I love the composition and staging of this piece as well - the mountains, the clouds, and the fields themselves. It all seems to have been pieced together seamlessly. The detail on even the most minute pieces - the gravel, the road in the background, and the rocks - is impeccable.

As for the title of the work, "Pencil Vs Camera", I don't agree with that, because to me, the pencil piece is an addition onto an already great photograph.

Vision: 5
Originality: 4/5; you've already done 60 previous "Pencil Vs Camera" pieces, so I'm taking off a point for that.
Technique: 5
Impact: 5

First of all, let me say I'm big fan of your art. Like everyone of your pictures/drawings is original, this one is also. I really like 'romance' going on here. Picture as itself is very stunning, I just don't really see point of that human at the background, I think it would be way better without him/her. Drawing is very nice, I like your style of shading. Little cupid is very cute. Women's anatomy is weird, I think you should had worked better on it. Her hair is pretty nice, though. Eyes and eyebrows are beautiful. Broken heart is pretty and give this art a story.
I hope you think this critique is fair enough. Have a nice day.

this photo alone could convey an emotional scene, depending on the title and information you provide. however the scene was set delicately where a very realistic scene is contrasted with one of fantasy.
My favorite part of the picture is the background. Here your depth of field and capture moment is superb. The mountains look as though they were swallowed by the fog and sky, giving them an ominous and also unrealistic quality that goes greatly with the drawn picture
To discuss the drawn picture, it presents a great faerie-tale like story, as the man takes the heart from the giant woman in the sky (all while a cupid has his bow armed and ready to fire)
This is a good picture to post, especially with the february holiday fast approaching.

I love how you managed to break up the picture by sing the rule of thirds, and the way that you brought the clouds into the drawing is really imressive. There is something a little bit unsettling about the lighting but I'm not sure if I like that or not. The only other peice of advice that I could think to give this photo is to maybe do more with the expression on the womans face, it could give this peice even more emotion and make it that much better. I hope this was atleast a little helpful to you!

This is jst wonderful. I love it. It's almost as if your hand is pulling the drawn woman away so he can notice the woman with the red backpack before it's too late. It's just beautiful.

Do you take the photo first and then draw, or have them pose?
