Eternal Darkness

when you're staying way out beyond the edge of town

out where those bright lights never ever shine

do you ever sit in memory, allowing your thoughts

to travel back to the time that you were mine?

do you think about our beginning, special moments

back in times of youthful sunshine an' uncloudy days

or is your mind set against such memories now

keeping the end an' anger within your mental haze?

do you sit back and listen to the old songs

those that we once enjoyed deep within our hearts

back when we were joined, heart and soul together

long before we separated into these distant parts

does the darkness hide your pain

does it sooth your soul

or does yours, like mine

have an empty hole

the story was never finished

we gave up far too soon

an' I'll always wonder why

we let it fade behind the moon

nothing left now but for that bit

that dwells there in the darkness

the eternal darkness

that contains our loneliness
