Quadsuit Toby the Klingon Targ by Beetlecat Quadsuit Toby the Klingon Targ by Beetlecat
A front on photo of my one-person quad costume (walks on 4 legs) at Further Confusion 2010.

Toby is a targ (a boar-like creature from Qo'noS) in the Star Trek universe.

Worn and made by me. Photo by psycoewok (with some crummy background blurring by me)

If you don't mind me asking, how did you go about installing the camera and how do your see through it? I would suspect there's a screen on the inside of the head or something?

If I could ask- what type of camera/reciever did you use for Toby's vision? My friend and I will be attempting a quad of our own soon and are willing to invest. We thought this would be a good idea for our suit- but we dont know where to start looking. Any pointers? If its a secret- we understand and feel free to say no.

Is the whole suite attached in sections like the upper part sowed to a shirt, the bottom a pear of pants and the head to a helmet? Thanks! Every little thing can help!

No. the bodysuit is one piece and the head is another piece and the front legs the 3rd.

So what is the body atached too then? A hand made undersuit that all the padding is sown onto? Or something sympalar?

The padding is separate from the bodysuit. Attaches via velcro where needed.

Wow that was amazing! How did you attach the boar's head to the bike helmet? I’m making a lion Quadsuite and where did you get the fur? How do you get in and out of the quad suit? Thanks! This is my first one and I have almost everything I need to make it, so exited!!! :D

"The Artist has requested Critique on this Artwork" Well, awesome. I'll try my best.

I'd add a bit of shiny on the inside of the mouth to make it look wet-perhaps using silk for the inside of the mouth and the tongue; and some clear nail polish for the nose to make it look wet as well.

I cant wait for more photos, he looks magnificent!

Lovely job on the subtle snout bumps. ... Is that a tiny camera in the middle of his forehead? That would certainly make a bit of sense; I can't imagine where else you'd have put the vision area. :) It looks immaculately realistic.

Indeed it is! It makes walking around much much easier as my only other vision is directly downa t my toes. Though I do need to insulate it - it tends to short out if I've been wearing the costume for a while.

That's very curious. :) Quite ingenuitive of you to figure out such a contraption.. I still have trouble visualizing how exactly it works, but it's neat that you're tackling such dynamic ideas. :)

Makes him look slightly cyborgian if you happen to look close enough, but I'm sure I wouldn't notice if were a live viewing. (Not that it detracts from the suit in any significant way.) I'm sure I'd be much too distracted watching the movements and looking at the fantastic fur blending to notice IRL. :)

Cheers;

Aww Beetle I love this, I've watched like a zillion videos of it, definitely one of my favourite quads.

Great work!

(By the way, the way you made it look so real with all the different colours and padding really goes a long way.)

I still can't believe how utterly realistic this suit is. And original too! (I don't believe anyone else has tried making a targ. XD; ) One little thing that sticks out is the random paint-like bumps on the nose. Were those intentional? It seems like a pretty easy thing to fix for you. o.o;

:iconbeetlecat:
Beetlecat Featured By Owner Feb 4, 2010  Professional Traditional Artist
That was intentional yeah. I like rough skin for more beasty characters. I imagine each bump being a follicle with a delicate whisker coming from it to sense the surroundings.

Luvs your targ (and inspirational too ;). I was walking on cos.com as you were making it and it's so impressive how it came out. You did a great job with the airbrushing to blend everything together.

Great job :)
