Full view please!

ALL FINISHED!!

Sara "Seidooryuu"'s painting commission order of her City of Heroes character, Feather, and Kanau, character of her friend, Jen.

Roughs done in ArtRage Studio
Tight pencils and india ink and brush on 8.5 x 11 inch cardstock
Final paints: ArtRage Studio ( 98% ) and Photoshop CS3 ( 2% )

Again, thank you, Sara, for giving me the chance to do this painting in ArtRage Studio! I was able to learn how to use the program while actually working on a commissioned painting, so it's kind of like learning on the job, which is how I work best!

Thanks. ^_^
ArtRage is just a fantastic program! Took a little getting used to in order to find a brush I liked, and to figure out how to create my own settings, but I think I'm now fully hooked on it.

God, the oil paint brush is sexy! Now to just learn how to use some of the other settings. I HAVE to get the watercolor and marker settings to work similar to how I work traditionally. Any idea how to get the canvas to react as if I pre-soaked it like I would with traditional watercolors and dyes? I ask because you've been using ArtRage longer than I have. ^_^;

Hi, it's difficult for me to explain in english, because I'm german :-) So I give you the link to the ArtRage forum. There you will find brushes, stickers, stencils colorsets and much much more. There also is a "Tips & Tricks" area, I learned a lot from this page. If you are not successful there just let me know, then I'll try to write a little tutorial to help you with your problem. In short, the behavior of color is set at the small "Settings" Tap found over the brashes panel. Here you can handle "Thinners, Loading, Color Bleed and so on.

Thanks! I have been checking the ArtRage forums on an off ( in fact, I actually need to get over there, make an introduction, and get this painting posted there soon. XP ). I THINK I found a tutorial that I can kind of use, I just noticed that I don't have all of the tools that the woman giving the tutorial has, as she probably has the Pro version. I'll have to upgrade to that version after I get back from AnimeNEXT in June.

But I think I can play with the version I do have and get an effect that works. Just going to take some practice.

And don't worry about the bit of a language barrier, it's okay. ^_^ Thanks for giving me a poke and reminding me about the AR forums, though!

Here is a Art Rage Paper & Canvas Tutorial: [link] It is for Vers. 2 but it's similar in ArtRage 3 Studio. As I told you yesterday, the behavior of the paint depends on the brush settings (e.g. color bleed).

Thanks, Eme!

I REALLY really really recommend giving ArtRage Studio a try, if you want to try a program that's probably the closest thing to working in a traditional medium that you can get digitally. Holy crap, I've fallen hard for "oil painting" in this program, and I'm becoming a little less intimidated to use the real thing because of it.

And the best part, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg and a soul to purchase, like Adobe programs do.

I actually haven't tried Painter out yet, but from what I've seen, Painter seems to be very similar to Open Canvas. And I hate to say this, but... I think I like ArtRage better than Open Canvas now!

You're welcome!

Ah, I'm not sure if you've heard the news yet, but Frank Frazetta passed away yesterday, at the age of 82. T^T
