In my last post in this series, I talked about where my costume came from, and how I created my own unique design from the comic Becky Albright appears in. Now I'd like to talk about some of the details in my costume.

With anything I make, details are very important to me. I'm less concerned with making an exact replica of something, & more with making something that looks realistic. I want it to look the way it would if this character were real.

In my MoF costume, there's a lot of homages to crows. At first glance, it may just seem like an added touch to the "scarecrow" aesthetic. But I added these to represent 2 important qualities of this character: her fearlessness, and her spirit.

In New Year's Evil, Becky stands up to the Scarecrow when she testifies against him, & when she tells him that the way he's dealt with his trauma isn't the way she's going to deal with hers. Both the newspaper & Scarecrow himself refer to her as 'Brave' & 'Plucky Becky'. Crows are supposed to be afraid of scarecrows. In my interpretation of the character, she wears them as a symbol to represent her history with Crane, in standing up to him & forcing him to look at the way he's dealt with his childhood trauma (becoming the Scarecrow). Crows represent the fear of death, but birds also mean a free sprit. The skulls & feathers serve as a reminder to Scarecrow of this history - that while she may have taken on the title of "Mistress of Fear", it is of her own free will, & for her own purpose. She's the one blackbird sitting on the scarecrow's shoulder, unafraid, occasionally pecking at him..

I'd like to go into more detail on that last bit, but I've actually written a fan comic about it! Once I find an artist to bring it to life, I hope to put it up on the internets. ;)

Thank you for reading! :)
