This journal comes to you from PinkyMcCoversong!
So you might have heard of this little book I co-edited called DEAR TEEN ME. It's an anthology of letters from authors to their teen selves. The authors in the anthology range from best-selling and award-winning authors to some fabulous up and comers. I know that no matter what, if you pick up the book, you'll find a letter or two (at least!) that speaks to you.
This is our fancy Amazon/Goodreads/B&N/Book Depository/Pick-your-bookseller blurb:
DEAR TEEN ME includes advice from over 70 YA authors to their teenage selves. The letters cover a wide range of topics, including physical abuse, body issues, bullying, friendship, love, and enough insecurities to fill an auditorium. So pick a page, and find out which of your favorite authors had a really bad first kiss? Who found true love at 18? Who wishes he’d had more fun in high school instead of studying so hard? Some authors write lists, some tell a story, and a few graphic novelists turn their stories into visual art. And whether you hang out with the theater kids, the band geeks, the bad boys, the loners, the class presidents, the delinquents, the jocks, or the nerds, you’ll find friends–and a lot of familiar faces–in the course of DEAR TEEN ME.
But enough about the book. YOU want to know how to win things. YOU want a writing prompt. YOU want to get involved!
Here's the deal. There are two sections of this contest. One is for over 18s ("adults") and one os for under 18s ("teens").
Adults: To enter the contest, post a letter to your teen self and submit it to www.deviantart.com/submit/?cat…
Teens: To enter the contest, post a letter to your adult self and submit it to www.deviantart.com/submit/?cat…
RULES! WE NEED RULES:
Your entries should be between 500 and 1500 words long. And they should be awesome. Got it?
No visual art, fanfiction, poetry, scripts or full length novels/memoirs. Letters only, and within the word count guidelines
Pieces created for other contests will be disqualified.
Please, only one entry per person. We will only consider one entry and it will be the first you enter so do us all a favor and only enter ONCE and make it your BEST.
For examples of some of our favorite letters, check out DearTeenMe.com. My co-editor Miranda Kenneally and I love these letters because they not only are full of emotive description and wise advice, but they also have a strong narrative element -- they tell a story. We love so many letters, but ones like Lisa Burstein's, Sarah Ockler's Saundra Mitchell's, Gene Brenek's, Carrie Jones's, A.S. King's Charles Benoit's, and Holly Green's make our world go round. Check these -- and more! -- out for inspiration.
Get your letter in that folder by November 20!

I didn't mean to drop off the face of the dA!
I really didn't. It just happened. I don't really like eclipse. It's needed and great for new artists, but it feels a little soulless and not designed for writers, which stopped me coming on. Luckily on the laptop it looks like you can switch back to old mode, which is comforting. This current situation is definitely pulling me back here. How is everyone coping with the Covid lock-down life? Are you even locked down? This is week 4 for us and I am also not working at the moment due to furlough. For a busy project manager that is hard! My kids are at home, husband is still working from home so just making the most of things and trying not t

Louder Than dA Bomb POETRY SLAM + Comment Below!
If you cannot participate for the awesome prize pool, see the bottom of this journal for a possible reward. A few days ago Elocutionists (https://www.deviantart.com/elocutionists) received a huge helping of prize donations for an unnamed contest the likes and scale of which have never been seen on deviantART before. What is it, you ask? It's a slam. A poetry slam. And it's Louder Than dA Bomb. A poetry slam is a "no holds barred" spoken word competition. Poets are encouraged to alliterate, rhyme, shout, whisper, zing, compliment, parody, satirize, improvise, recite, quote, play with words and even sing if the opportunity arises. For the longest time the Elocutionists (https://www.deviantart.com/elocutionists) tea

does it have to be BEFORE the 20th, or if I turn it in sometime before Midnight doe it count? I'm feel like doing this regardless of if I win, because I think it'll be fun, but I'm wondering.
