Hello folks,

sorry for spamming your inboxes today, I've just updated my gallery with some artworks from the last months.
If you'd like to see my updates more frequently, follow me on Instagram:

Besides: Thank you for 500+ watchers!
Even though there are so many dead accounts, it's a nice number and I'm really thankful for the support I get from the community! DevART is one of the first sites I joined when I finally had access to the magical Sparkle internetSparkle  and it helped me a lot to develop as an artist. So... thank you!

It's been a while since my last journal, so here are some updates to keep you informed about my life!

As I wrote about a year ago, I started studying Publishing Technologies in October last year. At first I thought it might be a temporary thing, a filler episode on my way to art school, but guess what - I'm still there! It's a bit though sometimes but I love it. It's all about books (you just have to remind yourself you need that bit of physics and chemistry also for publishing... ^^;) and I have lovely people all around me.
Unfortunately that's also why I'm creating less and less art, but well... I'll have to get used to it. Of course that doesn't mean I'll stop drawing, I just have to be fair to myself and see that I can't go out with friends and stay at home drawing at the same time.

Anyway... I hope you're all doing fine!
Thank you for reading.

- Dee
Hello folks,

Half a year later, it’s time for an update of my journal!
Also… I’ve been tagged by Kirschpraline, but before the meme, here's 2016 so far:

I told you about art school in my last journal. Guess what, I wasn’t accepted. Badum. It’s said that happens to most applicants and it was just one try at one uni but it sure was discouraging. I’ll try again, probably.
Afterwards I decided to concentrate on my job training and its final exam before getting crazy with art schools again. This is now done. The last weeks have been very stressful, but now I may call myself a media designer (specialized in print media). Yays!
Though I really liked my job at the publishing house… I won’t stay in this town. It’s been three rather lonely years and if it wasn’t for the degree I would have quit last year.
My plans aren’t utterly settled yet but… I’ll be moving to the town where my boyfriend and some friends live. There I’ll start studying Publishing Technology – not so artsy and creative but I’m still looking forward to it. I’m still figuring out if this might be even better than art school (in a way) or if it’ll be temporary only. It's all quite uncertain and exciting, too.

So. Now you're informed, let's move on to the Get-to-know-me-Meme... tagged by Kirschpraline.

Rules: Tag 8 people you want to know better! (Nah, no tagging today, sorry.)

Name: Doreen. I think it means “gift of God” and I just found out that the Celtic meaning is “moody” which fits me better. My parents had a hard time choosing my name and this was simply the first one ok for both of them.
Star sign: Pisces.
Average hours of sleep: 8 is my goal, but I always stay up too late and get about 7:30. I need a lot of sleep.
Lucky number: 3, 7, 42.
Last thing I googled: Pisces, was not sure about the spelling.
Favorite fictional character: Ugh... there are so many. But if I'll ever have children I wish they could be like Dipper and Mabel Pines.
What are you wearing now?: Blue skirt, black shirt with paper planes on it, underwear, no socks.
When did you start this account?: January 13th, 2010. Wow. What's my age again?
Amount of watchers: 468

What do you post?: Mostly traditional drawings and paintings of animals, fantasy things and women with fancy hair.
Do you run any more blogs?: My tumblr.
Do you get a lot of comments?: Define "a lot". But yes, dA is the place where I get the most feedback. Thank you!
Why did you choose this username?: Beareen is a mix of bear and Doreen. I don’t know how it happened but I became a little obsessed with bears. Aaand I wanted a name I could use on most platforms without ugly variations (like adding numbers).

That's it for now. Take care!

Dear folks of dA,

I hope you've had the nicest holidays and I wish you only the best for 2016!
Do you have some new year's resolutions or special goals?

2016 is going to be quite exciting for me.
I'm going to finish my job training and become a media designer. Afterwards I want to go to art college (to learn even more and specialize in illustration) and I really hope to get accepted - I've been (literally!) dreaming of the qualifying exam for weeks and I'm afraid this will continue for the next 3 months... ugh. I alternate between "It's going to be fine" and panic attacks. Everyone near me can't wait for this to be over, because my wanting to study is all I ever talk about. Sorry. :bademoticon:

Anyway, I'm looking forward to everything right now. Keep your fingers crossed. :D

Thank you for reading and for your support! It means a lot.
See you around!

I was commanded to do this by SaskiaDeKorte.
Jumping on the bandwagon... happy (late) birthday, deviantART! :D

  1. How long have you been on DeviantArt?
I joined on the 13th of January 2010, so it's been about 5 years and a half.

  2. What does your username mean?
Doertchen… is a silly nick name some of my friends made up. We were talking about weird names like Dörte. Dörtchen sounds like a mixture of Döner (kebab) and Törtchen (tartlet) and I hated them when they thougt "Hey, it's a funny name for Doreen!" but it actually sounds cute in the end. -chen is a syllable for small and cute things in German.

  3. Describe yourself in three words.
    Sketch-addict, observer, daydreamer.

  4. Are you left or right handed?
    Left handed.

  5. What was your first deviation?
    2o1o by beareen
I think it was the one from February. South Park was the fandom for me at that time.

  6. What is your favourite type of art to create?
Cute children-book-like illustrations full of positivity. It's soothing and calming me down on bad days. It's kind of funny how I create the most adorable things when I feel sad or lonely. Sometimes I wish for a more profound tonality in my art, but creating art that cheers me and others up and makes us smile is currently the thing I enjoy the most.

  7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
Playing an instrument, probably the piano. Luckily my boyfriend does that for me. :D

  8. What was your first favourite?

What our fandom's made of... by muncher190

  9. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
Atmospheric illustrations with a hint of magic. Well, it's mostly more than just a hint. I love everything whimsical and extraordinary. Here are a few examples:

The Fog by Checanty     Right before the Great Flood by pesare      sleeping fox by lettipaa

Paper Boats by golden-quince            Sweet cold outside by STelari

Winter night by Vasylissa       Castle Book by nokeek

  10. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
There are so many talented souls I discovered through the years! Here are only some of them: Checanty, STelari, molnareszter, koyamori Lufilie (not active around here, but she has been a huge inspiration to me), anja-uhren, SaskiaDeKorte, nokeek, pettryb, ullakko, and maaaany more!

  11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
Though question, I'd like to have a huge meeting with so many people. I made most of my artist friends at a German ACEO- community called "" and I'd really love to meet some of them. That counts, since they're also deviants. ;)

  12. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
It's hard to name anyone specific, I think it's the overall experience that really had an impact on me and the way I experience art. Before I got here, I only knew a German community focusing on manga and anime. Through deviantART I discovered a huge variety of different styles. It got me away from what felt like a dead-end road and helped me find my own way of drawing.

  13. What are your preferred tools to create art?
I have a small box of water colours with 21 small pans that I always carry with me. Together with a water brush, some pencils, fineliners and a few coloured pencils (Polychromos by Faber-Castell) it's my survival drawing kit. I mostly draw in several sketchbooks, but my favourite water colour paper is hot pressed / demi satiné paper from Clairefontaine. Even though I enjoy the structures of rough paper, this one is perfect if you're addicted to black fineliners. Which I am.

  14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
I get inspiration and ideas all the time, but for the execution I need a large desk. I love the one in my room at my parent's house, there's no computer to distract me. And it's home and contains years of drawing-memories. I feel more peaceful there than in my own flat.

  15. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
Hmm, maybe suggesting awesome art works from lovely people as Daily Deviations and seeing them getting the attention they deserve. Doing art trades has mostly been great as well.
And, of course, submitting art, coming back the next day and having a lot of feedback messages in my inbox!
I also remember being featured and becoming a contributor at GrimGloomTale. Lately I haven't been very active and own art hasn't been grim and gloomy enough to fit in, but it's nevertheless my favourite group around here!

I think about doing art features regularly, maybe featuring one artists per month... or biweekly.
But I couldn't come up with a catchy title yet. :cries:

However, I just stumbled upon the art of sanoe and felt the urge to share it with you. Her works are truly adorable and just to my taste! Have a look!

Hey folks! I am a dummy!

Another year has started and even though I'm a bit late on the train, I hope you had wonderful holidays and wish you a happy new year. May you find enough energy to make your plans come true!
Well... my holidays have been really nice and now I feel like I've recharged my batteries - I hope I can stay in this state for some time...

However, I hope I'll be a bit more active around dA this year. And I hope I'll get used to the new design. For now it's still weird for me to browse the front page... |D

First of all - thanks to the 200 awesome people who are currently watching me! I appreciate your support and would love to get to know. So why don't you just leave a comment to get featured for a start?

(You don't have to return the favor if you don't want to!)

  1. For each of the 20 first people answering this journal, I will put their avatar and the 5 deviations I like most from their gallery on the list!
  2. If you're featured, you have to do the same in your journal, putting the tagger on the first place.
The idea of this is not to get a free feature, it is to spread art around for everyone!

1.) I got featured by SaskiaDeKorte, so she get's the first slot.

Dear friends and followers,

it's been quite a while since you've heard from me. I haven't forgotten about you and so I hope you haven't forgotten me yet. How are you?

Many things have happenend during the last year, many things have changed and most of them were (or are) really good.
I wrote my last journal entry in July 2013. Since then I've moved out and started my training at a publishing house and I've already learned a lot about... well, the media industry.

I'm doing well, I think. Still I sometimes feel a bit lost and lonely in this town, even though I haven't had an "oh my gosh, all of my old friends are meeting so many cool people at uni and participate in so many cool things while my life consists of work and art and food and weekends with art and food and old friends"-breakdown for some months. Sometimes I get the feeling of missing something, because my best friend always tells me about the people she's hanging out with and the amazing things she does... and I just don't know how she manages all of that?

Speaking of best friends - I've been to London in April with two of them. A-m-a-z-i-n-g. Seen many things (+ Andrew Scott in 'birdland'!!), spend lots of money (I accidentally found Cass Art, happiest moment for my artsy heart) and... well, those parks were simply beautiful in spring!

Anyway... I've said it before, but I think I'm now back from my looong break. Posting my stuff on dA suddenly didn't feel right anymore but I think I've now solved the problem without figuring out what it actually was. Ehh... yeah.

Okay, that's it for now. Thanks for reading!

Update or Yes, let's call it a summer break

Journal Entry: Fri Jul 19, 2013, 1:49 PM
Hello there. Hope you're all doing fine and enjoying the summer.

Some of you might have noticed I've been away for a while. I'm afraid it'll stay like this for at least a few more weeks. I'll move out in two weeks and then I'll train as a media designer. Ugh. I'm really nervous but also looking forward to it. A little. Somehow.

Anyway, I think I'll start to draw again once the stress really starts. You see, right now I just don't feel like it. I'm simply enjoying life while doing nothing or reading or meeting friends or sleeping and cooking and eating and watching films and doing nothing again. I don't need compensation, so I don't draw. Even though there are still two art trades left to do. Sorry for that, but I don't want to mess 'em up.

Yeah. Let's consider this a summer break and hope I'll be back with lots of nice things in late August / September.

See you around!

Hidden in the forest [Feature]

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 16, 2013, 9:22 AM

Sooooo. Another contest at GrimGloomTale has ended and the results are astounding. Seriously, voting was really hard this time and I think all the entries the group received this time should be checked out – you can find them here.

The First Place

hunting in the woods by crisquinu

went to Hunting in the woods by crisquinu

There a lots of handsome women to be found in her gallery... which should be enough of a reason to check it out. ;)

Victorian Alice by crisquinu   Long hair tinkerbell by crisquinu   Jane eyre by crisquinu

The Second Place

White Boar by joolita

was assigned to White Boar by joolita

Serpent Priestess by joolita   lady in the woods by joolita   Ulysses, stay by joolita

Since I'm a fan of exactly this kind of black and white illustration... I'm happy to feature her.

I already mentioned how hard voiting was, so it's no big surprise that

The Third Place

Forest Family by TrollGirl

has to be shared between Forest Family by TrollGirl and Take a Walk by Madame-Hobnob

Lonely Valentine by TrollGirl   Winter's Journey by TrollGirl   Autumn's Chalice by TrollGirl

TrollGirl's gallery is full of fantasy and brilliant colours. I really like her atmospheric paintings, so go and have look at them, too.

Madame-Hobnob is a digital artist who really likes to draw. You can discover fantastic paiting and interesting characters in her gallery.

So far, so good. And now there is the

Rabbit Hunting by yanadhyana

which went to Rabbit Hunting by yanadhyana.

Spirit of the Forest by yanadhyana   An Abandoned Park by yanadhyana   Castle of Dreams by yanadhyana

It's actually impossible to feature her by choosing only three examples of her gallery... if you don't know :devyanadhhyana:s works yet, you'd better check them out instantly. I'm always happy when I see them in my watch-messages.

Alright guys, that's it. I hope you enjoyed the show, haha.

Some words (+ another feature)

Journal Entry: Sat May 4, 2013, 10:06 AM

Sorry for the lack of activity, I'm quite busy with life... somehow.

I should be studying for the final exams right now but whenever I try, I end up staring into space like this -

:iconincomprehensionplz: :iconsaysplz: ?

My plans for the time after school are still not fixed which makes me feel nervous and also a bit anxious...
I'm confussled. Sometimes I'm good, sometimes I'm not. Most of the time I'm ignoring all the serious stuff and if I don't I spend my time being sorry for bothering people with my insecurities... well... let's just hope that things will turn out to be good in the end.

Ok. Now back to the really important stuff - another artist whose works I want to share with you:

before the never again by RedGella   last touch, tree story by RedGella

Further brilliant pieces of poetry can be found in her gallery:

Copper Watch
When one rough push distorts my
Diamond Imbedded shovel
I weep with the shattering lining
The silver glinting; as my best friend
Spills upon the pavement
Clouds linger- a hazy fog
Trickling fallen tears along
My fallen shards.
If only; winding the wristwatch,
A moment before, a breath
Of ease.  When the crimson rose
Shown brighter than rubies; when
Forest pines were my perfume;
When earth's coal was just a rock.
I cling to my ruined friend;
And with a quick nod, fathom-
The debris can be mended
With each tick of a copper watch.
CoupletMirror, Mirror sparkle well
Clinking shatter - dog age dwell
The first was marked with ruby swine
Pricking tips on spindle's twine
The next, I grant, you'll waken still
zombie corpse -  the poor bride's shrill
Three, a year, so quickly spent
Bobbing Styx to hear screams lent
Then borrowing time, the timex four
Father weeps on rainman's door
When Yeller's rabies snuffed him out
Red fern wails just  - fed Jack's sprout
And with five golden rings around the posie
Poor Humptey lost his ode to Rosy
Even Humptey lost to six, and seven
Aching glass to Snow White's heaven
FamilyWhat really matters
Blood beating, pumping furiously
To see your smiling face
And glinting with familial bliss
Blood beating, pumping furiously
Anxiety riding the crop of humility
And glinting with familial bliss
How you make me feel like shit
Anxiety riding the crop of humility
I sit, hands folded, to your criticism
How you make me feel like shit
Mocking those few glimpses of pride
I sit, hands folded, to your criticism
I will not give my consent
Mocking those few glimpses of pride
Remember who you are
I will not give my consent
Inferiority is not my namesake
Remember who you are
Those friends that cherish my pride
Inferiority is not my namesake
I will leap back home
Those friends that cherish my pride
To warm, loving arms
I will leap back home
To see your smile
To warm, loving arms
And what really matters

By the way this is the first time I used that tool... fascinating! And I'm sorry for my lack of activity lately, I just feel a bit... odd, I guess. I don't even now what's wrong.

Anyway, I hope you're all doing fine! Have a great day and don't forget to show those amazing artists some appreciation!

Hello there.

My PM will expire tomorrow so I guess I have to create a new journal, while I'm still able to make it look somewhat pretty. And yeah, I could finally change my name, yays. Now some of you possibly can't pronounce it anymore since it's a combination of my name and the German word for tartlet. xNirialx made it up for me about a year ago and… well, that's the story.

So. How are you doing?

I think the year started quite well so far, even though I've been kind of stressed out for the last weeks and now I got a cold and look like the world's most favourite reindeer, just without the antlers. And the fur and everything else, obviously. Oh ignore me, I'm tired.

You might have noticed the lack of updates in my gallery. It's not like I stopped drawing and sketching and painting and messing around with paints and markers… it just feels like there's a lack of quality in those dubious little creatures, so I'm not entirely sure whether you'd enjoy to see them around here or not. You click here and tell me?

And, of course, some more works I lately discovered:

Hey there.

How are you doing? Survived the holiday season?
My holidays were quite relaxed so far, I haven't done a lot besides watching Supernatural (and reading corny fanfiction to comfort me afterwards) and enjoying the Neil Gaiman overkill I got for Christmas, haha. I'm totally in love with his work, his blog, himself and his wife.

And now it's time to say good bye to a year full of awesomeness. Because looking back I have to say it was great.
There was one day I thought my life was falling apart but we managed it and right now it's not more than a dark, far-away memory. I just know because it was the day The Reichenbach Fall aired in Germany. Has nothing to do with it, though.

I've seen The Subways and Die Toten Hosen, I've been to Berlin, Bulgaria and Italy, I got to know some super nice people and even made friends, started using Tumblr (and I doubt this is an achievement…), fell in love with Florence and the Machine, got used to water colours, ate shrimps for the very first time (not too bad ;>), got my driving licence, reached 100 watchers a few days ago (thank you very much!), and I don't wanna let go because I'm sort of afraid of 2013. It's gonna be hard and scary, I'll become of age, finish school, find out what to do with my life.
I'm  gonna be alright.

So. How about you? Has it been a good year to you? Any plans and wishes for 2013?

Now... what about some more features?

Hey there. What's up?
I just got tagged with another answer-my-questions thing and it's not like I was going to do anything more useful anyway, so… it's about time to update my journal before it gets too dusty.

A few things happened since my last entry, but nothing that would be important for you to know. People keep asking me what I want to do after school and I still don't know although I always tell them the same thing: study design, I just don't know how to get there yet. It's not like I care too much, I just want to be happy. And I am, from time to time.

Yeah. Now the questions. Rules are for losers, let's not get bothered with them.
Questions every tagged person has to answer:
1. Five things about you most people don't know?
• I can get along with everyone quite easy, but it's hard for me to really get to know people. If I start to like someone I also start thinking too much about everything I say and do and things get awkward. I feel vulnerable and strange and hate myself for it.
• I like spinach. Most people I know don't.
• I'm left-handed.
• I never like orange a lot, but when I got asked if I wanted my room's walls to be green or orange, I settled on orange. Don't ask me why.
• Some people think I'm lesbian. Which I'm not.

2. Five of your favorite emoticons or whatever?
Naah, I won't look for them now. Just imagine Andrew Scott dancing
3. The qualities people like in you?
You can talk to me about everything. Except for things I have no clue about, but then I'll listen carefully. My best friend told me that I appear to be nice, calm and intelligent on the outside. Is dat so?
4. The qualities people don't like in you?
Possibly that I never get shit done. At least that's what I don't like. I don't know, that's why I think about it a lot. You tell me?
5. Weird or Normal?
Normal doesn't exist.

amyfan13's questions:
1. Are you a bro? If you are brofist!
2. Have a favorite movie?
Fight Club. The Avengers. Some more.
3. If you could wish for anything in the world what would it be?
Everyone being so relaxed they don't have to fight about all those silly things anymore. People would realize that their lifes are too precious to be wasted before it's too late.
4. How would you react if you meet your favorite fictional character in real life?
Ugh. I don't even know who that would be. Stop and stare, I guess.
5. Have a pet? If not what would you want? :3
I have a dog and want one of my aunt's cat babies when I move out, they look like owls. So damn cute.
6. Favorite holiday?
7. What holiday would you make up?
Uhm… a pretend you are a superhero day?
8. Country you would like to travel to?
Some. All of my (Germany's) neighbours, the USA, UK again, Norway, Sweden, Finland, some more.
9. We're almost to the end, how are you holding up?
Some tea would be nice.
10. We're there, what would you like to say?
You're reading this? Dude, what's wrong with you?

My questions:
- Your day so far?
- First singer/ group you loved?
- Something that cheers you up on bad days?
- Last book you read? Would you recommend it?
- Something you're looking forward to?
- Deep sea or universe?
- Do you thing that 7 questions are enough because it's such a pretty number?

Feel free to post your answers in a comment if you want to.

Me being talkative + some features

Journal Entry: Tue Aug 7, 2012, 9:49 AM
Happy birthday, DeviantART!

I guess today is just the perfect time for a short update, even though it's not easy to decide which skin I should use, now that I can change it for one day.

So, what's going on… Scroll down if you're not interested.

At the moment I enjoy the summer break. Sadly it's my last one, because the next school year will be my last. Scary, but well… I guess my live will go on somehow. My parents won't kick me out if I don't know what to do… I hope.
By enjoying I mean that I'm currently working. Yeah. I'm doing the same boring job I already did last summer, it's still awful to get up at 5 am, but everyone is nice and I get paid.

On Sunday I'll go on a holiday with my family, we'll fly to Bulgaria for two weeks. I haven't been on a plane since I was three (a sailplane for half an hour does not count) so we're all excited but I don't expect any terrorists since they were already there a few weeks ago. A nice thing to see in the news, two days after you booked everything… but seeing (or just listening to) the news is always kind of disturbing. And why would someone expect them to be fine if people have never ever acted that way?

Apart from that I'm not doing anything special. I'm eating, sleeping, drawing, fangirling and yeah, that's mostly it. Sometimes I even think about some things, but only sometimes, of course.

I think today is also the right time to say Hello and thank you very much! to all the new watchers I got during the last weeks/ months. I'm glad to have you around, really!
Needless to say that you may always talk to me, whether it's about my stuff (were critique is not just allowed but welcome) or you just want to say Hi or recommend a book or whatever you think could be interesting.

Now I can't think of anything else to say, so let me close with some randomly chosen features. Hopefully you'll enjoy some of them, so you don't have the feeling you wasted your time.

If you see some of your works here and want me to remove it, just tell me!

Okay, this was really... random. But I wanted to do that since I found out that you don't need a Premium Membership to have thumbnails in your journal. Maybe one day I'll do that in an more organized way, just like STelari does it in her Creeping Wednesday features. Because I like them and it's just nice.

Soo, thanks for stopping by and possibly even reading! Have a nice day!

At the moment I'm in a strange mood. Feels like I've been sleep walking for months and now I'm finally waking up and realize that I've been running in circles, searching for something that was right in front of me, but now this thing is weak and fragile and parched. Sounds weird? Feels so, too. But I'm fine. It's good to be awake.

My brother turns 11 tomorrow. Will he get his letter from Hogwarts this year? Possibly not, but you can never know. But maaaan, when did he grow so old? Haha, now I sound like my mom.

That's it for now. Have a nice day :>
