Hufflepuff is described a lot of ways. Hagrid says lots of people say Hufflepuff is a "a lot o' duffers." Malfoy says "imagine being in Hufflepuff, I think I'd leave, wouldn't you?" The sorting hat says Gryffindor wants the brave ones, Ravenclaw wants the smart ones, Slytherin wants the cunning/ambitious ones, and Hufflepuff takes "the rest."
Even in the books they're kinda portrayed as the loser house, LOL.
Hence why Cedric's near-grab of glory had Hufflepuff all in a tizzy. Finally a Hufflepuff DOING something rather than just being an unassuming "the rest."
