Roughly 20 miles south of Buffalo, NY, in Erie County's Chestnut Ridge Park is a unique geological feature called the Eternal Flame.  The park sits at the northern edges of the natural gas-rich Marcellus shale formation.  There is a grotto in the wall of one of the park's ravines which contains a fissure that provides a steady stream of natural gas from the deposits deep below, much line a Bunsen burner.  Once lit, this fissure can stay lit near indefinitely.  Water frequently flows over the edge of the ravine in front of the fissure, thus earning it the name Eternal Flame Falls.

Many shots of this waterfall, and most waterfalls in general, focus on long exposures that visually smooth out the flow of the water.  By contrast, this high-speed exposure captures the individual water droplets in freeze frame like glistening diamonds surrounding the flame.
