You may know me mainly as a music photographer.  That's what I've been doing to help keep myself sane, it helps take my mind off of my day job at an advertising agency (don't get me wrong, I like my job), and in the absence of being up statge myself it helps me stay close to live music and it allows me a creative outlay.

Well, 3 or 4 years after my last band band blew apart because the guitar player up and quit after a gig, then after my divorce and having to learn to be and trust myself again I've joined another band.  I can't think of better timing for a call.  My friend Neil, a drummer who I played with in the last band (which was a surf band called The Eradicators, here's a quick video ) called me up and asked to have lunch.  He was playing in a band as a duo, just guitar and drums and they were considering filling out the sound and wanted to see how it came across with a bass player and I got the call.  Sidebar...  For those bass players out there, yes that is an ultra rare Rickenbacker 4002...  And it's long gone, I sold it years ago to help buy a house after my divorce, please don't ask me if its for sale or trade, its gone!  :(

It was awesome, its all original, catchy rock songs with great melodies and everything that makes me like original songs.  After one jam, they asked if I wanted to stick around...  Fuck yes!!!!  They've got an amazing catalogue of songs!  And we write well together which is heaven after some prior experiences in other bands.

There's a local radio station here doing a Rock Search contest so we went into the studio and recorded 4 songs, 3 of which we've posted to SoundCloud as our entry.  Feel free to check us out, we're called "The Owns" at soundcloud.com/theowns

Of course being a music photographer I got the gig to do the promo shot...  Figures, I'm really happy with everything in it except my head shot...  Sheesh!  Again, please check us out, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Wow, I shot three blues bands last weekend...  MonkeyJunk in Toronto and Paul DesLauriers and The Jesse Greene Band in Ottawa. Wish I'd had at least one camera with me to shoot Erth Juce on Saturday night...  SORRY!

I shot Simple Minds tonight!  One of my all time favourite bands of all time (yep, that's intentional repetition)!!!  People they have far, far more than just the hits like Alive and Kicking...  Check out their first 4 albums and the last 3, they're ALL amazing!!!

And later this week I'll be shooting Rival Sons on Thursday and both Crash Karma and One Bad Son on Friday!  :woo:  fricken' :hoo:!

It's hard adjusting to living on one income...  In one fell swoop I lost probably 60% of the "family" income...  Some major adjustments in going from dual income to single income!  And I just had to replace the transmission on my car... NO!!!!!!!!  And I hate credit card debt, I hate dipping into the line of credit.  How the hell do I stay above water???

Does anyone have any idea on how to best turn art into $?  Commissions, do they work?  What else is there to do?  Will signed, original photos sell on eBay?  Any ideas on how to get a show at an art gallery? Any other ideas?

I have an idea on how to do signed, exclusive one-off images that will never see the light of day again but still...  Any idea on how to catch the eye of a gallery where they won't absolutely fuck you and take the majority of the sale price?

Thankfully, I have an amazing, wonderful woman willing to help me!  Thank you Patricia!!!!  Anyone got any advice or contacts or thoughts that could help us?  Anything would be appreciated!

Just finished attending Canadian Music Week and shot a ton of artists...  Everyone from A Place to Bury Strangers, Colin James, Firebelly, The Grapes of Wrath, Heart, Heaven's Basement, One Bad Son, Schomberg Fair, Soulstack, Steve Strongman, The Reason and Washboard Union.  Holy crap, boy do I ever have a lot of shots to go through and edit!

Found out I'm approved to shoot Garbage tonight.  :w00t:

And I have requests in to shoot Volbeat, Muse, Green Day, I Mother Earth, Fleetwood Mac, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Johnny Marr and the Healers, The Black Angels and How to Destroy Angels.  Fingers crossed!!!  Could be a busy month!
