Crossing the rugged mountains
Of beautiful, ancient Romania
I discovered a mysterious flower
Blooming gloriously in the snow
Shimmering in sublime radiance
In spite of winter’s biting chill
Planted by God in that sacred spot
Like a miracle of Heaven’s mercy
Blessing cold and weary travelers

As I reached toward it in wonder
A gentle warmth filled my heart
And I knew that flower had grown
To lighten pilgrims’ heavy burdens
So that travelers in a bitter world
Overburdened by winter’s malice
Would feel the surety of spring
Warming their cold, haggard souls
And be uplifted by God's grace

I recently met a new artist. Touring through :iconkmygraphic: KmyGraphic's gallery felt like being given a shopping spree to a marvelous greeting card store and florist shop.  If you have ever wondered where folks get those amazing artistic comment graphics from, you really ought to visit her gallery.  I have gathered a gleaming horde of treasures to beautify my own comments with from now on.

In the process of faving most of her works I came to realize that anyone who spendsthat much time creating things just to brighten people's lives, must be a pretty special person.  Besides, she watched me first.

How do you thank a person like that?  It seemed weak for me to use one of her own graphics to thank her with.  After all, I am a poet, so why not honor her and her dedication to bringing beauty wherever she goes with a fitting poetic homage.  I hope everyone loves it!

Well most of my poetry comes from me trying to honor some person, or impart some experience that I have had.  This particular poem was just based on my experience of going through KmyGraphic's gallery.  All of her works celebrated beautiful things;  love, friendship, beauty and her heritage.  About midway though I realized that what I was seeing was not so much art but a window into a rare and beautiful soul.

She had created so many works specifically to allow other to share beauty with others that I was moved. I decided to celebrate who I saw through her art.  We were right in the middle of a very cold time (outside was subzero) and in the middle of all that bitter chill, I found a whole world of shimmering flowers and praise, like finding an oasis of warmth in a frozen icy wilderness.

I started by making a list of everything I wanted to tell about this person I felt like I knew even though we had never met. She was godly, Romanian, lover of flowers and beauty, dedicated to sharing that grace with may people just because she could.  Once I gathered all the elements together the thing practically wrote itself.

Naturally, since I am a lover of supernatural stories I had to also add a fairy tale flair to it.  Everything I try to do as a writer and a poet is about trying to share an emotional experience with the readers.  What I was trying for was to let other people feel the warmth I had felt meeting this person through her work.  Sometimes we try and fail, but sometimes everything comes together in a perfect moment of sublimity as it did here.

I am also a Christian so it is all about trying to bless people with my words just as He that is the Word has blessed me.  As to how I constructed the poem, I basically just started throwing down my ideas as quickly as I could before the moment of inspiration passed.

Once I had all my loose thoughts down it was time to start reworking, polishing and brutally pruning out anything that didn't flow smoothly or enhance the piece.  That process can be painful but I find the overall work is far stronger when we cut out anything that is just taking up space.  It is not a perfect process.

I hope this was helpful.

Absolutely beautiful! I don't see many poems or pieces of literature on DA that really make me say, "Wow." Great job! I would love it if you could critique my own poems and tell me how to make them better! Once again, beautifully written! Keep it up!

Send me a note with links to a few.  I am by no means an professional (that is my little sister the lit phd).  i am just a hobbyist.  So don't expect me to be a learned bard of the ilk of Orpheus, who can charm the very hounds of hell with but a word, but if you value my opinion that much, I am willing to take a look, kick the tires. wtvr

...and of course.  Thank you so much for the lovely comment!

Yay! It only felt fitting to honor you since finding you and your lovely art has actually been like being given a gift. I have already begun using your works in my comments.  I was simply touched by how you seem to have just made it your mission bring a little sparkle and joy to everyone you meet on here.  Even more than that you give EVERYONE that same ability, and every time someone uses one of your graphics, a little piece of Romanian sunshine follows.  I basically just found you tremendously inspiring.

After all I believe much as you do.  You will find that the majority of my poetry is written to honor people on here, and to bring a blessing, a gift of words, like that flower, to warm the hearts of weary travelers.

I carry with me a gift of words
A bouquet of lovely thoughts
I know not who they are for
I know God will lead me
And those words will be
For that person's particular need
A tear in times of mourning
Applause in times of celebration
A swift sword in times of wrath
Armour to defend the weak
Healing balm to bind the wounded
But always the warm embrace of love
For words are powerful things
Often misused to hurt and maim
But I choose to give them as blessings
Seasoning them with heavenly salt
And the exotic spice of whimsy
To bring out the savor of life
For we have been commanded
To love even the least of souls
And bear one another's burdens
Just like our Divine Teacher
Taught us through His grace

See!  You inspired me again!  Now I have to go post this one too. Froggy Emoji-22 (Hug) [V1]

Doctor WhoHurtling through time and space,
Can he ever find a place?
Jumping forward to a brand new earth,
Jumping back to an empty hearth.
Forward again to see the Face of Boe,
Back in time to meet an old foe.
He is pursued by an incessant fact,
The likes of which he can't take back.
His entire home, his people his soul,
All gone, leaving him without a goal.
The last of the Time Wars,
                                                        The end of his kind,
                                                   He is trapped b
