I've got an ink jar just like that Twilight...always been curious about the squeeze bulb on the cap though...

The squeeze bulb is for eye dropper part of the lid. It permits you to drip drops of ink into a separate container you can access with dip pen or brush without having to leaving the lid of ink bottle open.

Or, just as important, being able to see the ink level clearly when you're dipping the nib or brush, so you don't dip too far; with pens, you get blots, and with brushes, you get ink up into the ferrule where you can't clean it out, which degrades the brush (the latter being something I learned painting plastic models).

Yep. Never get paint or ink up past the ferrule of either. It will shorten the life of them.
