A Victorian Anglican (Episcopalian, Church of England) prayer book that I found in a coal cellar.

There are also some pictures in my gallery of this book open at the service for the burial of the dead.

The writing on the front says "Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge", a publisher that has been in business since 1698 ([link] for more information).

Pictures of old books (antique books, even!) seem popular. This one is antique, maybe antiquarian, but not all that old as such things go: it's before 1899, and that's all I know for certain. It might be possible to get a closer date by exaining the prayers for the members or the Royal family if anyone is interested. The title page is missing.

You can use the images here in any work on DeviantArt (including prints) without needing any permission or paying any fee; I ask that you let me know when you use a piece so I can link back to it.

You can use the pieces non-commercially for any purpose whatsoever; again I'd like a link back if possible.

You can use the pieces commercially, but in this case you must send me a copy of the finished work, and the cost is that you must go entirely barefoot for a day, i.e. all the time for 24 consecutive hours. OK, I'm weird. Live with it.

Thank you!

One day when I was a thin and nervous teenage boy I ventured into the old stables that my father used as a coal-cellar. In one corner of the building was a small room - I had to scramble over a pile of coal and make my way through cobwebs!

In that room I found some Victorian glass jam-jar candle-holders, and this old prayer book. It is in large print, and has a prayer for Queen Victoria.
