dreaming of forgotten toys by barbarasobczynska dreaming of forgotten toys by barbarasobczynska
a little commissioned-picture for the lovely sweetie Janet :iconj4n3t: to adorn her new apartment in a while, let's hope Janet will like i, she was so kind to give me a lot of freedom while choosing the topic for the commission, so i sincerely hope she'll be pleased with what i came up with all in all:fingerscrossed:

Swathed in a muted palette dreaming of forgotten toysreally creates a surreal atmosphere. *Basia-AlmostTheBrave offers a room for those toys that need a little TLC. ( Suggested by arisuart and Featured by oilsoaked )

Looking through your gallery it's impossible to choose a favourite, but this one touched a memory I have of a picture book I read when I was little ... a girl had a toy rabbit and it had a hole in its leg which its stuffing was leaking out of. And there was a bit with a basement and lots of forgotten toys ... and that's all I remember! D: But your wonderful illustration really reminded me of it. :) You have a beautiful style and loads of gorgeous artwork which I'm now going to go and look through more thoroughly. Thanks for giving me a flash back into my childhood. :+fav:

Your works remind me of the picture/storybooks I used to read and look at when I was a child. Whenever I look at them, I have the feeling of "coming home".

The forgotten toys don't seem too sad to be forgotten, which is nice...they seem to be dreaming their own dreams...
Wonderful picture, I could look at it for ages.

Po przeżyciu, przeżuciu i sfavowaniu
tego cudownego, niewinnego,
choć zarazem podwójnie makabrycznego
(także w sensie sprawiedliwego i nieprzekupnego...
do bólu...danse macabre zapomnienia,
dojrzewania, uczenia się cynizmu i klatek) obrazu,
zauważyłam, iż praca otrzymała DD,
a więc została doceniona również przez osoby
o doświadczeniu i wiedzy merytorycznej.
Lepiej, iż zauważyłam "po",
bo zawsze favując coś, o czym wiem, że jest DD,
mam głupie wyrzuty sumienia wobec niedocenionych prac
z galerii danego artysty. Nieważne.
Ważne, że mnie bardzo poruszyłaś :)

marmota-b Featured By Owner Jul 8, 2009
So many of them! It reminds of Josef Čapek's Povídání o pejskovi a kočičce, where doggie and pussycat find a lost doll, take her home with them as their child and decide to find toys for her... and find a lot, lot, lot of forgotten and lost toys...

Only trying to figure out all toys in there could take me a whole day.

Lovely! I can't help feeling a bit sad for all the forgotten toys though. Especially that big cute elephant in the upper part, right above the geischa doll! :aww: I bet the one the picture was for loved it.

I am now going to favorite this.

Janet is a very lucky lady. This is a piece I would hang in a place in my home so I could stop and look at it every day. It's interesting, it's up lifting, its ... well... just great.

Is it the scan/shot or is the saturation of the colors really that low?
I mean, it's a great piece don't get me wrong-
