Prologue

The world was once populated by mystical beings of various shapes, sizes, and... ideals.

During this mystical era, the world's ecosystem was perfectly balanced between predators and prey, for near all creatures were at peace and were able to hunt and scavenge as they pleased.

However, there were a few of these beings who were not satisfied.

Until they destroyed each other over their desires, these six major races reigned over the world for thousands of years:

The Elves, who had lanky bodies, long ears, and vast knowledge about spirits, and their great powers,

The Dwarves, who were stocky, hairy, and had exceptional creativity which aided them in making both great and terrible machines.

The Giants, who stood taller than all the rest, had little to no hair, and were quite gullible, for what they gained with their great size, they lost with their minds,

The Goblins who were small, blue and green creatures with red eyes and pointy teeth that wished only to collect the shiny rocks within their mountain caves,

The Lycanthropes who were huge beasts with long tails, thick fur, and the ability to adapt to any environment with ease due to their mysterious powers

And the Dragons, who were great beasts who each took their own unique forms, within eight main color groups. The white dragons who tended to be peaceful with horns for protection, the black dragons who tended to be hostile with horns for ravaging, the red dragons who were typically courageous with many small horns used to protect and save others, the green dragons who were typically encouraging and with no horns at all, the blue dragons who usually kept to themselves with large fins that were sharp as a scalpel, the grey dragons who flew through the skies with wispy bodies that rarely had horns, and the yellow dragons who tended to be cowardly with spiked tails which could shoot out and stun foes. The dragons were quite special for they were the only creatures throughout the world who could materialize their soul through the emotions which made up their personality and resonated within their hearts,

The Elves, who sought out wisdom, considered themselves to be vastly superior to the other races. They used their knowledge to trick the other races out of their land throughout the forests with empty promises and deadly force if they refused.

The Dwarves, who sought out solitude, headed into the mountains in order to create and test their machines without resistance. They used their machines for many purposes including entertaining themselves, building and maintaining their homes, trading with Elves, and protecting what was theirs, but the main reasoning was to rule over the mountains where they could mine any materials they may need.

The Giants sought out land, for the Giants had been tricked by the Elves and lost their homes.  The Elves had approached the giants and offered to live in union with them in exchange for access to their pneuma trees. The Giants only knew of the trees offering healing powers to those who were near them, so they gladly accepted the offer and even held a feast for their new brethren. However, the Elves had no interest in the healing powers of the trees, what they wanted was to remove the pneuma from the tree and fuse it with their swords, so while the Giants slept the Elves enhanced their weapons. When the Giants woke the next morning the Elves drew their new weapons on them told them that they were to leave the forests and never return, rage-filled the Giants at the realization that their beloved trees had been reduced to ash for without the soul within the tree it could no longer exist within the world. The Elves wasted no time in eliminating the raging Giants, for with their new enhancements their blades could slice through even the thickest of enemies. Hundreds of Giants were slain on that day and what few remained headed into the desert never to see their beloved trees again. Their misery did not end there sadly, for the desert did not have near enough food to sustain their bodies, nor did it have enough water to quench their thirst.  Eventually, they started to lose their sanity one-by-one, they soon began eating the elders in their clan to survive, and then the simply devoured anything they could, even their own young.

The Goblins sought out freedom. They lived peacefully in their caves deep in the mountains for hundreds of years, collecting shiny rocks and using them to build homes. That changed once the Dwarves started mining in the mountains, at first the Goblins just moved further into their caves, but as time went on the Dwarves mined deeper and deeper looking for their shiny rocks; eventually, the dwarves reached the Goblin’s caves and invaded their homes. They kidnapped as many women and children as they could find, then they slaughtered the men and forced the children into slavery. They forced the children to power their machines with laborious exercises and forced the women to breed with suitable candidates in order to produce more efficient, obedient slaves. Though not all the Goblins were captured, a few families managed to escape through passages in their homes which lead outside the mountains. These families banded together and vowed to avenge their fallen brethren and free their children from the misery that was forced upon them by their Dwarven Overlords.

The Lycanthropes sought out exhilaration. Lycans were strong, fast, and simple creatures who didn’t care about the troubles of the other races. The only things they cared about was their pack and their next hunt, whether it be an Elf, a Dwarf, some Giants,  Goblins, or even the occasional Dragon, all they wanted to do was to test their strength against other beings.

The Dragons sought out peace. Dragons were the most powerful of the mystic races for they were covered in scales tougher than any shield the Dwarves could invent, used claws sharper than any blade the Elves could ever craft, and they possessed magical powers which were determined by the heart of each dragon. If a Dragon was gentle they would possess a healing type ability. Should it be courageous it would have a fire type ability.  If the dragon was merciless it would use a shadow type ability. And should the dragon act cowardly it would possess a lightning type ability. As the obvious Alpha predator of the planet dragons preferred to live in solitude rarely traveling in groups outside of their mating season when all except the gentle dragons would be drained of their energy in order to ensure the strength of their eggs. While they gave energy to the new young the gentle healing dragons would keep their slumbering counterparts alive, for if they were to give too much energy in their sleep they would surely lose their life and the survival of the next generation would be very unlikely even if they did manage to hatch without the energy of their parents they were likely to be too weak to defend themselves, and they would never properly develop their magical ability due to their stunted growth.

One evening a small group of Dwarves wandered up into the mountains. To their surprise, they found a rather large cave near the summit, since it was rather cold and they had grown quite curious as to what exactly was in the cave, they decided to enter. They knew it couldn’t be Dwarven due to is rough walls and the large marks on the floor of the cavern; when the group reached the rear of the cave they found a giant pile of bones. Upon further investigation, they realized that it was the skeleton of a white healing Dragon, identifiable by the unique way the horns curve around the head for protection, they then realized that the marks on the floor were from a battle between it and another dragon. The Dwarves, not knowing of the mating ritual of dragons, were shocked to discover that the white dragon had been slain by its brethren, which usually protected the healing types due to their lack of combat skill. Based on the fact that there were no scorch marks on the walls of the cave they determined that a shadow type dragon must have attacked the white dragon, but they couldn’t determine why it would do such a thing. The group, realizing the weight of their discovery, knew that they had potentially made a huge breakthrough in the lives of the terrifying race which had completely overpowered them in the past.

They immediately rushed to the elders who ruled their mountain society to inform them of the discovery. The council, impressed by their findings, decided to appoint the three to the head of a research division, which would investigate the cause of the violent acts of the dark dragon and seek out any additional information they could gather on the beast’s reasons.

The group headed back up the mountain, this time with a full research division behind them. They investigated the marks for hours but failed to gather any information about the dark dragon’s reasons, so finally as dark approached the group ordered the research team to carry the bones of the dragon back into the main cave in order to analyze them further while avoiding another long trek up the mountain. After moving the bones they discovered that the dragon hadn’t retreated into the back to the cave as they had thought; the beast had instead died while blocking the path to the chamber behind it. The Dwarves had already sent the research team down the mountain with the machines so they couldn't illuminate the chasm, but they could see a faint red glow near the wall of the cave. When they got closer to the glow they realized that it was under the remains of another Dragon which appeared to have died of starvation rather than murder like its companion.

Excited by the new skeleton the group forgot about the glow and lit a fire so they could stay the night to investigate the second corpse. They noticed that the second Dragon was not the same type as the first, for it’s horns emerged on various areas of the beast's body for both defense and offense, which was a clear sign that it was a red Dragon with a flame type ability. This raised even more questions for the Dwarves for they could not see any reason as to why red and white Dragons would live together much less for a white dragon to fight, while a red sat and watched without attempting to help. The group decided to take a closer look at the area around the cave, upon searching behind the corpse a Dwarf noticed the glow once again and called the others over to investigate. There they found three red eggs and two white eggs, they knew this would make them celebrities once they returned to the main caves, so they decided to bring one of the massive red eggs over to the fire so that they could have a closer look. As they approached the fire the egg began to glow more vibrantly, then before anyone within the group could properly react the flames from their fire rose and began to swirl around the egg with scorching heat and dazzling colors.

Before the Dwarves fully processed what they had just witnessed a man-sized baby dragon appeared before them. The dragon welp was grey with small horns covering its back, and as it rose its grey scales began to turn a deep red.

The group wasted no time with restraining the dragon and hauling it down the mountain. Upon return, they approached the elder council who were overjoyed to have a living dragon that they could use as they pleased.

The next day the group attempted the same feat under the supervision of the elder council who were once again overjoyed to see two more red dragons under their control, one being a light red that was almost pink and the other being a very dark red that could easily pass as black. However, when placing the white eggs near a flame they got no reaction. The council was not amused by the lack of knowledge of the group they named the head of research, for their success the four dwarves were appointed as caregivers for the dragons, and for their failure with the white eggs, they were forced to live in the freezing cave where the eggs were discovered.

Meanwhile, with the Dwarves distracted by the dragons, the Goblin families managed to sneak a couple of spies into the slaves in order to spread a message to all the prisoners. While the spies spread their message the rest of the families began working on their plans.

The Giants, who had been rampaging through the desert for years, where the natural predators of the Goblins even before they lost their sanity. The Goblins never had to worry about them due to the caves being too small for the Giants to enter, but since the Dwarves had moved into the mountains they had managed to expand all the caves except the ones where they stored the enslaved goblins at night to prevent them from escaping.

After a few months had passed the Dragons had reached adulthood. However, they had not even reached half the size of their parents and the white eggs still hadn’t hatched, even though they had tried everything they could think of to try and force a reaction the dwarves came up short, so eventually the group assumed that the eggs had turned white due to losing the life inside them. The stunted growth of the dragons puzzled the Dwarves, for even though they were only half the size they were supposed to be, they were still just as resilient as their full-sized brethren, though they couldn’t use their ability, as red dragons all they could do was glow when near flames.

This development greatly disappointed the council for they believed they could use the magical powers of the Dragons to counteract the power the Elves had gained through the Giant’s pneuma trees. It was then decided that one of the Dragons be brought to the weapons development unit. The group of caretakers was very concerned about this as the Dragons had never been away from the group since the moment they were born. Concerned for the well being of both the weapons unit and the Dragon, the leader of the group silently followed them to their compound, where he witnessed as his beloved Dragon was strapped down, and to his absolute horror, they began to rip out the creature’s scales.

The Dwarf ran towards the team and tried to stop them but he was slain by the guards before he reached his friend. The Dragon let out a heart-wrenching roar as he watched his caretaker collapse beside him. As if on cue the outer gate of the caves began to rise as the Dragon bellowed loudly.

The message the spies had given to the prisoners of the caves was to hide in their cells when the dragon cried out, so when the Dragon bellowed in agony and despair all the slaves began rushing towards their cells. The guards stunned by the sudden surge of slaves began attacking any Goblin within sight but when the guards turned  their attention back towards the gate they instantly understood why they surged further in instead of out; a small group of Goblins from the escaped families came charging through the gates, and hot on their heels was a horde of deranged Giants.

The families knew that they could never take down the Dwarves on their own, so while the Dwarves spent their days raising the Dragons the Goblins gathered all the Giants they could find in the desert and had them chase them closer to the mountains with each passing day, just waiting for their chance to strike. See, the Goblins already knew of the mating ritual of the dragons for they had allied themselves with the ones found in the upper cave. The white dragon had been defeated by a black dragon which had wanted to ensure that the red dragon did not produce young near his hunting grounds. The Goblins knew of the tragedy but could not retrieve the young due to the Dwarves who had been taking over the nearby mountains in the area. So when the smaller group of Goblins lead the Giants into the caves the rest of the families gathered in the upper cave to retrieve the dragons. Unfortunately, the caretakers of the dragons had already flown out of the mountain on the grown dragons. However, they did leave the white eggs, so the families gathered the eggs and brought them to the top of the mountain where they began to glow and out came two baby white dragons.

The caretakers had been instructed by their leader to take the dragons out of the cave if he didn't return within half an hour. Upon flying out of the cave they noticed the hoard of giants entering the opening gates and heard the heartbreaking screech of the red dragon. Assuming that the council would evacuate they headed for the emergency evacuation tunnels and waited for their elders to arrive. Within five minutes the council appeared through the tunnel and informed the caretakers that Goblins had savagely torn apart their leader. With their two remaining dragons, the Dwarves gathered all the men they could and headed into the forests.

Within the caves, the remaining Dwarves were ripped apart by the deranged Giants and beaten to death by Goblins whenever they tried to take shelter in the slave caves. Meanwhile, the restrained dragon, having seen its guardian die, and having many of it scales ripped out, did the unthinkable, the stunted dragon forcibly used his ability. The Dragon began Glowing bright red, as it let out one final screech the mighty Dragon imploded due to his imperfect birth and collapsed the main tunnel leading into the mountain killing off many Giants and trapping the rest within the cave.

The chasm was filled with an eerie silence as the last of the crushed Giants let out his last breath. The Goblins had reclaimed their home but none felt like it was a victory. Hundreds of Dwarves unexpectedly lost their lives, the last of the Giants had been trapped in a confined space, and many of their brethren had lost their lives to enact this plan. They may have regained their homes but they endangered three species by doing so.

Throughout the neighboring lands, Dragons of all types heard the last cries of the red dragon. However, his last cry was not one of defeat it was one of war. Dragons for hundreds of miles heard this war cry and began heading towards the forests where it all began.

The Elves heard the cry of the Dragon and turned towards the mountains where they saw smoke rolling through the sky, knowing what it meant the high Elf ordered all pneuma troops to the gates.

The Dwarven Council immediately restrained the remaining Dragons and slaughtered their caretakers once they were out of eyesight. They headed through the forests to meet with the Elves and demonstrate their new Dragon scale shields.

The Lycanthropes heard the Dragon’s final cry, stopped what they were doing and returned to their dens in preparation for the arrival of the black dragon which hunts their lands and slaughters anything in its path.

Despite their loses the Giants continued to fight each other in the darkness of the cave.

The Goblins patiently waited for the Giants to kill each other off.

The nearest Dragon to the mountain was an infamous black dragon who slaughtered the Dragons within the mountain caves. Said Dragon was currently flying through the Lycan plains on his way to find the creatures who stole his kill.

The Dwarves arrived at the Elven headquarters.  A hot-headed pneuma user charged the Dwarves without orders and broke his sword on the new Dragon shields. The rouge Elf was then executed by his superior officer and the High Elf met with the Dwarven council. The Dwarves agreed to build any items the High Elf may need in exchange for shelter.

The High Elf accepted the offer from the Dwarves and ordered them to build a suit of armor made from the dragon scales.

The last standing Giant bellowed through the cave signaling that he was the victor of the battle. The Giant was then suddenly attacked by the remaining Goblins.

And thus the last of the Giants was slain.

The Goblins joined together to eliminate the last Giant and then headed towards the upper cave to regroup with the families and attempt to relocate the remaining Dragons.

The black dragon headed into the mountains, drawn by to the upper cave by cries of the baby dragons.

The Dwarves finish crafting the armor for the High Elf after descaling the back of one of the remaining Dragons. To show his Gratitude towards the Dwarves the High Elf offered them a large temple to serve as their workshop and a small inn to serve as their homes.

The remaining Goblins reached the upper cave and reunited with their brethren after nearly a year of slavery. However, the reunion was cut short by a deafening screech and a gust of black smoke.

The High Elf adorned his new armor as he heard another mighty screech from the mountains, and Elves and Dwarves alike watched in awe as the massive black dragon descended upon the upper cave of the mountain.

The Lycans let out a long, sad howl in memory of their opponents who had been slain without warning.

The black dragon wrecked havoc within the uppermost cave in the mountains once again, and only stopped once he realized that the baby dragons whose cries he’d followed where not the children of the red dragon but the white who refused him and stayed with red. The dragon quickly exited the cave leaving only three survivors including the baby dragons.

The Elder Council of Dwarves worked restlessly trying to create as many dragon scale shields as possible before the inevitable arrival of the Black Dragon. By the time they finished with their preparations the two red dragons writhed in agony for every scale they had was torn off and used to protect the lowly beings keeping them captive. The darker of the reds slipped out of his mouth restaurant and managed to let out a weak roar before collapsing from the pain.

The High Elf prepared his army with pneuma swords and as many dragon scale shields as the Dwarves can pump out. Just as he withdrew his sword from its scabbard black smoke engulfed his town.

The last of the Goblins walked to the edge of the upper cave with the white dragon whelps and watched as the forests were taken over by a cloud of darkness.

The black dragon vanished into the forest after hearing the red dragon’s plea and covered the area with smoke

A white dragon from a nearby land arrived at the sight of the red dragon’s demise when she sensed that she was not the only white dragon in the area. She flew up to the upper caves where she found a green Goblin resting with two young whites.  She laid nearby and healed the wounds they received from the black dragon while watching his approach on the nearby forest.

The High Elf ordered his men into position and commanded the dwarven council to stay by his side in order to prove they were worthy to join him on the battlefield.

As the Dwarves moved into position the black dragon appeared, in a flash of darkness half of the council was wiped out. The remaining members along with the Elves attacked the dragon together, but only two weak attacks to its tail did damage as it eliminated a small group of Elven soldiers.  Three of the remaining six councilmen charged the beast while it was distracted by the soldiers, they managed to do damage to the underside of the dragon before it eliminated them with its massive claws. The three remaining councilmen took their chance, two stabbed the dragon in weak spots on each rear leg while the other stabbed through its tail. The dragon devoured the councilman on his tail, crushed the other two at its feet, and let out a deafening roar of pain.

The High Elf took his shot while the dragon screamed in pain. He planted his sword through the heart of the dragon.

As its roar came to an end, the dragon began turning to ash in front of the High Elf. As the dragon blew away lightning struck the High Elf.

The neighboring dragons had finally arrived. Two red dragons stood before the High Elf as yellow dragons began circling above. More red and black dragons appeared from the woodline all with the goal of eliminating the village...

Dragons continued to appear, as the High Elf regained his composure his pneuma sword started to turn black and a surge of malicious energy flowed through the High Elf as he absorbed the power locked within the dark one’s heart.

The High Elf felt a surge of energy throughout his body. He noticed the soldiers and Dwarves who managed to survive and gave them the order to retreat. As the last of the people left the town the Dragons descended upon the High Elf; suddenly the sword he possessed began flashing black and white as he put all of his life force towards self-destructing.

From the plains, the Lycans observed as the swarming dragons were suddenly wiped out in a grey flash. In their place was a giant crater with a black sword sticking out of the center with a shredded dragon scale glove hanging from the hilt.

The white dragons hid themselves away after the defeat of their companions under the guidance of a small green Goblin

The remaining Dwarves and Elves decided to join forces and after a few centuries became new beings called the Human race.
