Sketch Dump 1

Suffering from bad artistic juju at the moment, or at least I was. Whenever I get to a piece of art or commission that I just can't seem to get a handle on, it's good to take a step back and just draw for fun, that's what it's all about after all.

I've been struggling with foreshortening and anatomy lately so figured it was best to practice the things that were giving me grief! Scoured the internet (and my comics) for inspiration and things to draw, so here's a page of faces and body parts, most of them foreshortened - you've got foreshortened feet, arms, legs and even a foreshotened ass! Sweet!

Btw, I've cleverly scanned in the best of the faces! For each good face there's at least 4 or 5 that I'll have drawn that really suck!

Enjoy!

Ohh, I like these "sketch dumps". They're quite the reference one needs :)

Thanks dude, glad you like 'em. And if they can be useful reference then all the better! Liking your gallery by the way, very cool and a helluva lot of stuff in there too!

Nice. Thanks for sharing.

I can definitely see the Ryan Ottley influence in the male faces on top there.

Ha ha! Glad you like 'em dude. I was gettin' so frustrated with not being able to draw for the last couple of days that I figured the best way to cure it was to just sketch and practice. Fortunately, it's worked and I figured it was worth sharing a bit of my sketchbook, especially as anatomy can be a complete b*stard to draw sometimes, thought other artists might be able to use it. Plus, my commissions are taking longer to put up on DA than expected, so wanted to put something up in the meantime.

Cheers! :thanks:

Good stuff, dude. I think that fore-shortening is a pain in the ass for any artist. I know for damn sure that it's my personal pet-peeve when it comes to drawing human anatomy.

Cheers mate, much appreciated. Yeah, foreshortening, especially extreme foreshortening is so difficult to get right, I always have a tendency to draw the bit furthest away too big still but I guess that's what the practice is all about. As I've been doing a lot of people's characters for them, I generally draw them pretty front on, so that the customer gets as good a shot of the hero/heroine and their outfit as possible. I realised that in my gallery, there's only a few pics that have used foreshortening, and therefore the practice was definitely needed!

:thanks:

Cheers Luis, glad the sketches can be of some help. Will get round to doing something about inking at some point too, once I've finished some more of my commissions!

:thanks:

Really impressive work! I love the faces.

Thanks man, that's very kind. I'm really influenced by Ryan Ottley, the guy who does Invincible. He's got this clever way of doing faces (and anatomy for that matter) which I really wanna get down. Just don't wanna end up doing my stuff too like him and not having my own style!

Thanks again! :thanks:

Nicely done, wished I could do that but I wish I could most of what you do ^^

Thanks dude, however, Debido San says that you've already won a contest on DA, so you can't be doing too bad! ;) Trust me though, and I said this to Hulkdaddy too, just draw, draw, draw. It's all practice. I suck at foreshortening, so I'm gonna practice that 'til I'm blue in the face. If you've got a stockpile of pics or can get some off the net, just use them & copy them over and over. The only snag is that in some comic book cases, proportions are way exaggerated but once you've got the anatomy down you can use it to exaggerate your characters!

Take it easy, and above all, enjoy your drawing dude! :w00t:

XD oi, you won a drawing contest for christ sakes, you can do quite a bit!

You know me, hitting my head against a wall that isn't there or so some seem to think is what I'm doing ^^;
