Yesterday, I heard some horrible news, and spent the evening in tears.
Unfortunately Stan Lee passed away.
If you don't know who he was, he was the creator and co-creator of some of Marvel's finest superheroes, like Spider-Man or the X-Men. He was also a writer, editor, and all around a marvelous man.
Thanks to him, growing up, I had friends in comic book characters when I had none in real life - and thanks to him, I met new friends too.
When I was visiting my sister in college a few years ago I went to buy some comics in a charity shop. I had two SHIELD patches on my sweater, and when I went up to the till with some comics, I had a conversation with the man at the till and the man that was in front of me about Marvel. One of them notices my patches and asked, "is that SHIELD?" - it was such a pleasant memory and I smile at it to this day.
Even when I was a child, we all loved the heroes... We loved Spider-Man, and the Hulk, and the X-Men.
It is because of this man, that my love for comic book art grew, and that even when I lost all inspiration to draw, the motivation to draw Marvel characters remained.
I will always cherish my comic books, and the friendship, good memories, and escape that they have given me.
Thank you, Stan Lee. Excelsior!
