Sands of Creation by balaa Sands of Creation by balaa
She was white like the sands, tawny like the sands, solitary and burning like the sands.--Honore de Balzac, Passion in the Desert

This is a piece that breathed it's own unequivocal meaning as it came to be; With this sentience it became a demanding mistress, unrelenting and even cruel. But such is the way with some paintings. I cannot say it is my best, the problem with painting certain recurring ideas that exist in our conscious mind is the subconscious is always rewriting them even as we paint them, editing away ideas deemed superfluous and embellishing upon ideas left understated in earlier ruminations. In honesty I could probably spend eternity revisiting this piece, but it is time to move on to the new ideas that breath with molten breath against my muse. I promise to one whose name I dare not utter, next time I will do better <:.

The gravitational lensing around the hands is a really nice subtle touch, like she is warping the fabric of space-time itself.

pandalemur Featured By Owner Mar 13, 2012
you say it's not your best, but this really is an incredible piece. The contrast of the cool colors and warm colors is balanced so perfectly -- if there were anything I would change it might be to add small highlights of yellow, but not much. The details are fantastic!
KanuTGL Featured By Owner Mar 11, 2012  Student Digital Artist
This is just stunning. I love the use of colour; how she is utterly cold like the sky, but still burning with fire like the sand. Beautiful!

awsmdragonqueen Featured By Owner Feb 29, 2012  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Very amazing piece. I would I could zoom in more and take in every detail of this painting. First, what struck me was the light and beautiful color contrast. Second is the emotion... the look of this creature, divine almost and looking at the view like she has something to say. The sand speaks to me that time passes though our fingers. we can grasp but it does no good. The symmetry is also very beautiful about this piece.

very interesting, probably the best digital work i've seen in quite a while. :wow:
