You have managed to invade my mind,
Making yourself home within my dreams.
You were stunning, yet you were also kind,
Your hair flowing like the fastest streams.
We were good friends, me and you,
Talking, laughing – we seemed to be without a care.
You always knew what I should do,
You gave the best hugs, tighter than a bear.
There was never the right time to show you how much you meant to me,
There was always that something making it really hard.
If I wanted to look you in the eye, I would have had to knelt down onto one knee,
You were small, skinny and petite whereas I was a big old tub of lard.
We always seemed to be so near, yet so far,
You kept me up at night, you were in my thoughts during the light.
It burned inside me like searing hot tar.
I always feared telling you would cause a big fight.
Always happy and bubbly, never without a smile on your face,
Where I went around with a constant glare and frown.
We never would have survived; I was way out of place,
Kind of what happens when you’re the only Scotsman in a Welsh town.
Time went flying by, as the time to tell you got less and less,
Exams and prom – college foremost in every mind.
You were happy, talking about your dress,
I stayed far from the party, worried at what I would find.
I wish there was a way to tell you face to face,
Alas, I resorted to telling you over the internet.
We kept in contact, but the effort seemed to fade away without a trace,
It is fair to say my happiness took a major dent.
After all these years, my thoughts will still go back to your smile,
How you seemed to make my fears just melt away.
Some say I’m crazy, others will say I’m in denial,
But I will keep hope that we shall meet again…one day.

This came up after I saw an old picture from my time at High School. I'll say that it was a really, really bad part of my life, but one person kept me from doing some really nasty stuff. So this is a tribute to the girl who kept me sane and safe.
Wherever you are, I hope life has dealt you a better hand than I.
