You Only Get One Shot

WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE?
(Spoilers for OneShot Incoming)

Do you guys ever have that moment in a game when you're presented with the most terrible and unfair of choices? The kind of choice that either way will leave a lasting painful scar? Well if you haven't you clearly haven't seen or played through to the ending of OneShot, a spectacular game that has an amazing world, fantastic characters, and a highly intriguing story that will leave you with many questions once the journey has ended, not to mention some of the best and most creative examples of breaking the 4th wall that I have ever seen!  I can't applaud this game enough. 

But I think the thing that truly makes this game stand out to me, is this story's unlikely hero/ chosen one/ messiah... Niko one of the most relatable, quirky and downright adorable protagonists I have ever seen in a game, when he feels happy so do you, when he's scared you can feel his fear, and when he's down or sad... DAMN does it hit you right in the feels, he's just an ordinary kid who is thrust into a world and duty he knows nothing about. But the unique thing here is this duty actually gives him the ability to get to know and trust you, the player. In OneShot's world you are...god who only Niko is able to speak with. You easily relate to the little guy because you are both strangers in a world you know nothing about, Niko has no Idea how he got here, and you only know you started a new game curious about what it will offer. There are so many times I want to personally comfort a character in a game or show because seeing someone struggle can be painful to watch, but most of those times when you reach out your hand meets glass.   However in OneShot that wall is nonexistent! Here you can comfort Niko, you can give him advice and above all else you can earn his friendship and trust.  
(MAJOR ENDING SPOILERS AHEAD)

Which is what makes the ending so painful and heart-wrenching, after going on an incredible adventure through a bizarre and endearing world with someone who you can genuinely say have become a great friend to them... The game yanks the rug out from underneath you and reminds you just how cruel reality can be. It tells you that at the end a choice will be presented where you must decide what matters most? The world you've come to admire and love or the innocent child who ended up becoming your friend and traveling companion who through thick and thin trusted you to help him progress and followed your advice even when it didn't make much sense. That's the real tragedy either way there will be a scar where the one that got left behind used to be...
