Ballad Written in your Honour
I will write a 2-3 page Epic Poem detailing your heroic exploits and adventures so that people can sing of your praises and your name will echo throughout the ages. You can choose if you want it to rhyme or have a chorus or if you want it to be more free-verse styled. You will own the full rights to your ballad and do not have to credit me. You can modify, resell, or post the ballad anywhere you want.
Short Story or Vignette about your Favourite Culture
Tell me what your favourite culture is and I will research the culture and make up some characters from that culture with names that are very generic and typical sounding for people of that culture. I will make a village or something as the setting and invent a simple problem for the characters to solve. You can pick any culture, ancient, modern or even fictional. You can even tell me two of your favourite cultures if it's too hard to pick one and I'll make it an ambitious crossover. I will try to be as accurate as possible while still making it interesting.

You can choose if you want to see the culture in an ancient, modern or futuristic setting.

8-10 pages.
Love poem to woo your favourite person the old-fashioned way

You can call me Freya. I was born in India but I live in Canada, and as you can probably tell I really like Mexican culture. I support indigenous rights and love to read books about philosophy and ancient history. I'm always down for a pretentious literary discussion with a fellow cultured nerd or to discuss decolonization with some w o k e activist.

I am very passionate about writing and it would mean a lot to me if you took some time to read my stories and poetry. You can also check out my blog at freyathefrypan.blogspot.ca to find out about my novels, articles, and random musings on life.

An Author in Antarctica: A Short Story“Brr... it’s spicy out there!” Kalseru laughed as she entered Tecolotl’s lair, a room inside the Amundsen-Scott Antarctic research station. She unzipped her jacket, a stylish black windbreaker with the flags of Australia and New Zealand embroidered on its right breast-pocket, and hung it on the coat tree by the crackling electric fireplace with its ghostly, blue flame. She was mesmerized for a moment by the fire, its spooky flame dancing in her dark eyes. It didn’t burn any real wood, after all, where Kalseru and Tecolotl were there were no trees. It was much too cold for anything to grow at the South Pole. Kalseru removed her warm, woolen hat and gloves and held her hands in front of the fireplace. She also smoothed out her thick, curly hair that was such a typical feature of her people, the indigenous people of Australia.
Her loud arrival caused Tecolotl to stir, who had been curled up asleep by the fireplace while Kalseru had been out working for the In

The MaenadThe Maenad
One autumn evening, I was at a linguistics conference at the University of Pennsylvania. I was lecturing on the history of the Gaelic language, including its impact on modern Welsh. I was disappointed by the low audience turnout to my presentation. A few esteemed professors were there, people who held doctoral degrees in Latin, Old Norse, Sanskrit and who knows what else. They were all as ancient looking as the languages they studied. Seeing them made me feel glad that I got my PHD in linguistics while still young. I would have been the youngest one there, if it weren’t for the undergraduate student who had walked in. After the lecture, she found me and introduced herself as Elaine.
“That’s a good Gaelic name, one that means beautiful,” I told her. I was just pointing out a fact, being a professor of linguistics. It’s not like I was flirting or anything. In fact I found her annoying and was really hoping she would leave me alone so that I could

Axial Age AdventurersZarathustra was starting to doubt Plato’s driving skills. “Is this the right place?” he asked.
“Well it’s not supposed to be a sprawling metropolis like Athens,” said Plato, checking Google Maps on his iPhone X.
Confucius cautiously emerged out of the car, careful not to trip on his silk robes.
Meanwhile, the Buddha felt right at home. He was used to meditating in the forest and calmly settled under a tall cedar tree.
“No wonder you got invaded by the Persians. Give me that map!” Zarathustra said. Of course he had lived long before the Persian wars, but the four ancient philosophers had spent the last few days getting to know each other ever since they had been plunged into the modern world. This included learning the history of each other’s civilizations. “Wait…” he squinted at the screen, “this really is what they call the native reserve. Our trade routes never reached this continent.”
“My peopl

The Gift of the Bear The way desert nomads are so fond of their land amazes me. I mean, I’m an adventurer, and I’ve seen many people in my time. They lived in forests, in the mountains, or by the sea and they all loved their land and thought their homes were the most beautiful places on earth. But how could anyone love the desert? It baffled me, for it seemed like the desert was where all of humanity’s hopes and dreams died. Yet the nomadic tribes of the Sahara think it’s great.
I felt lucky to be in an air-conditioned room in Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania. I was pouring over the scrolls that the headman of the Imraguen tribe had given to me earlier that day. They were from the medieval trading outpost called Chinguetti, a city with the same allure as Timbuktu. The writings were in Arabic, and because the dialect was so antiquated and the cursed sands had faded the flowing script to the point of being nearly impossible to discern, they had called me, a world-renowned linguis

The Axolotl and the EmperorThe axolotl never failed to amaze Ce. He would often converse with the strange salamander-like creature from the swamps of Mexico for hours at a time. As it swam around in its tank, it seemed to have the enlightened expression of a wise, ancient sage. Ce observed it as it swam among the new aquarium decorations he bought, which were miniature Mexican pyramids.
“Do you like your new aquarium decorations, Cipactli? The one you’re investigating right now is supposed to look like the pyramid of Cholula. It has the greatest volume of any pyramid in the world” Ce told the creature.
The axolotl turned from its inspection of the ruin to face Ce. It seemed to give an enigmatic smile.
Ce sighed. “It’s really sad how the Spaniards built a church on top of it. Maybe I can get rid of the church when I’m crowned as huey tlatoani of All the Land Between the Waters today. Or maybe I should keep it as a holocaust museum to inform outsiders of what happened to our peo

The Hunter in the Cedar Grove Sedna knew something was wrong from the moment she woke up and the light of the sun entered through the door of her low, dome-shaped dwelling. She had been asleep on the floor, wrapped in a beaver skin blanket before she became aware of the fact that she was all alone. Where were her brothers and sisters?
She crept towards the entrance of her portable home and realized she didn’t hear the morning chatter of the other band members. Panicking, her heart started to race like the quivering aspens in the distance with their leaves agitated by the wind. She felt an instinctive restlessness stirring inside her as the silence was broken by songbirds singing and flies buzzing. A cool summer morning breeze blew through Sedna’s long black hair.
Finally, the young woman calmed down as she saw her brother approaching from a distance.
“Atka! Are you on your way to the creek? Don’t forget your pronged spear.” She reminded him. Then her face fell as Atka came closer and s

Memories of youLife should come with an undo button but instead it was designed with a replay button,
it makes sure your biggest mistakes and your most embarrassing moments are never forgotten,
Life should come with a delete button or at least a way I can send a warning message back to my past self,
a warning to shut the romance novel and put it back on the bookshelf,
Perhaps if I had been told the world wasn't like it was in that story it would have been enough to save me,
If only I had known,
I wouldn't have spent my days searching for True Love until I was almost grown,
If only someone had warned me,
then maybe I wouldn't have fallen into your trap and I'd still be free,
every moment that we spent together felt heavenly,
and now I'll regret my mistake for eternity,
for when I was busy searching for True Love on a hopeless quest,
I failed to see I already had True Friendship, a treasure rarer and more precious than all the rest,
Now it seems we've drifted apart but that's okay because you're always

Not even in my DreamsIn the morning, the cold is numbing,
I am reminded I don't learn from my mistakes,
my heart is brimming with longing,
to give until I have nothing left to give has always been my fate,
you find me so repulsive that there is nothing for you to say,
you flinch at my touch and at the sound of my pleas you turn away,
it's like this every day,
and so I live my life waiting for the night,
hoping to be rewarded for my devotion in my dreams,
maybe I will hear you laugh,
anything is possible, it seems
I might trade my life to see you smile,
yet just as deep as my love is my despair,
there is no enmity between us but you just don't care,
no flicker of recognition in your eyes as you pretend I'm not even there,
everyone who I love always leaves,
and you'll never be mine, not even in my dreams

Your FaceI did not believe in otherworldly beauty,
thought it was silly for poets to compare the sea with eyes and roses with red lips,
didn't think a human figure could look as graceful as a tree,
and certainly did not believe that Helen of Troy could have launched a thousand ships
But all that was before I beheld you,
far too gorgeous for your surroundings,
and I was tempted to compare you to the stars and to the moon,
I finally understood the French expression coup de foudre for I was indeed struck by lightning
I am now haunted by your beauty every day and every night,
no one else I've seen could be your rival,
yet underneath you have a heart of ice,
your face, it is not worthy of someone who is so evil,
a lifetime of repentance couldn't make up for your sins,
your vanity knows no limits,
there's no kindness under your skin,
and now I realize that not even the best mask can conceal the horrors that lie beneath it

WarriorArise, brave young warrior,
the day is here,
so braid your long hair,
sharpen your spear,
and remember the most dangerous weapon you can wield
is the wisdom of your ancestors,
let that knowledge be your shield
Arise, young warrior,
the day is here,
a time of freedom and liberation is near,
your heart holds no fear,
you can endure any pain,
the only thing you have to lose are your chains,
soon they'll be gone and you'll be free,
not wilt away in hopeless slavery
Arise, young warrior,
the day is here,
the world can already foresee your victory clear,
Feel the spirits of your restless ancestors,
it is you who they watch over,
You feel a connection to the earth and your blood stirs,
you remember all that you sacrificed for this clean water,
This land is yours from mountains to rivers,
See the way how you touch the surface of the water and form ripples,
ripples like your heroic deeds which grow and spread,
when your oppressors hear your name they will tremble with dread
Arise, y

The Nomad's WalkaboutThe nomad wanders through the desert,
Many things can hurt him.
His tribe is nowhere to be seen and all he has is a boomerang to hunt with,
He must wander from waterhole to waterhole,
He sings as he does so,
As if it would make the waterhole appear faster,
As though he was born singing.
Perhaps the first language of humans was in song as we learned to imitate the calls of birds,
As the nomad is now doing with the voice of a kookaburra.
He comes across the nest of an echidna but he can not eat it though his stomach rumbles,
The echidna is the totemic symbol of his tribe, after all,
He kills a wallaby instead,
The nomad wanders through the desert,
Many things can hurt him.
He must survive in the desert for many weeks alone,
Only then will he be allowed to return to his tribe,
Only then will he be permitted to start a family,
He needs to prove his adulthood,
Such is the way of the ancient walkabout.
The nomad wanders through the desert,
Many things can hurt him.
He takes out his didgerido

At the Mercy of the LiberatorI am a queen who was dethroned, and rightfully so,
I fancied myself a goddess yet now I am imprisoned,
In a tall tower that rises above the empire I once ruled,
Its mossy, ancient seeming bricks were brought to this land on the backs of slaves who I had whipped,
Upon people who I had spit on but who had kept me fed,
And you were once among the people who had polished my boots and took their hats off and bowed in my presence,
Men who had pledged their swords to the protection of my body,
Their hundreds of glistening blades are all pointed at my neck now,
Inspired by you to long for my head on a plate,
And now I pace around in this rat-infested prison,
Growing thinner underneath my silky dress,
Its threads were dyed purple with the secretion of snails,
Because I thought of myself as no less than the praetors of Rome,
And I remember when I was surrounded and the dress had been torn by ruthless proletariats,
It is now crusted with my blood so I have put on a black trench coat to hide the c
