Happy winter to everyone!! Even though the first day of winter was last week today is the second day of snow in our area so it officially feels like winter now. It was sixty degrees outside just a couple of weeks ago, but now it is in the twenties and it looks like it will stay that way for a while. To me it feels like a mild start to winter and I am hoping that it will stay that way. The days of blizzards can stay forgotten as far as I am concerned. Though I am not that naive, I realize that we will most likely have much colder days to come before summer hits.
The snow does look pretty when the light sparkles on it and there is a lot of fun to be had in playing in it during ones spare time. Still driving in it can be a major pain that I can live without.
Anyway have fun and enjoy the winter no matter where you are located. Unless it is summer where you are located then have a blast!!!!

As we live through our day to day lives we all experience stress at different levels. It is not that we have stress that makes us different from one another it is how we deal with that stress. Do we let it flow through us, taking note that it is passing or do we let it control us?
For the majority of the people out here on DA I feel it is the later that rules the roost. All of us have experienced stress and major loss in our lives. But how do we deal with these bits of stress when they occur? Do we let them pass through us or do we let them take charge of our minds driving us to produce even more stress. It can be an endless cycle if you let it.
The easiest way to deal with this stress is to quiet our inner voices that try to make us panic. Yet this can also be the hardest way of dealing with it as well. It is important to remember that our biggest enemy in this monitoring of stress is our own inner mind. The inner voice that all of us have, tries to predict what will happen in our lives. But this inner voice is lying to us, it has no idea what is going to happen. There is no possible way that our mind can predict what will happen in our future.
But how do we quiet that inner mind? How do we develop the feeling of peace and the knowledge that we are safe? Below is one way of working to achieve this inner peace. It is a simple but effective method. In future news articles we will discuss other methods. We will talk about our daily practice of these methods and how they can help us to achieve inner peace and calmness, regardless of what is going on in our day to day lives.
Breathing, yes breathing can be a very effective way of calming our inner voice. It can help us to achieve inner peace and it is something that can be done no matter where you are. This portability and availability makes it one of the most potent methods of calming ourselves.
When you notice stress and panic coming on simply stop where you are and sit down. Close your eyes lightly and take a deep breath. Hold it while you count to five and release it all at once through your mouth. You will notice that some of the stress will leave out with the sudden exhalation of the breath.
Next I want you to inhale slowly and count to five while you are doing so. When you get to five, stop your breath for a second then slowly exhale to the count of five as well. Once you have exhaled stop your breath for a second and then repeat.
While you are doing this I want you to monitor your thoughts, don’t try to stop them, just notice them. Now in the most polite way you can, simply tell these thoughts to come back later. Treat yourself like you would treat your best friend if you were consoling them. Just be polite with yourself and don’t worry about these thoughts. Now is not the time to think about things, now is the time for you to concentrate on your breathing as we breathe in and out slowly to the count of five.
Continue with the breathing and continue to dismiss your thoughts as long as you need to until your stress level is relieved. Don’t worry about doing this exercise correctly, there is no right or wrong, there is simply the breath and the quietness of your mind.
As you do this simple meditation thoughts will crop up from time to time, don’t worry about them simply dismiss them and breathe.
I have found that doing this exercise at times of high stress and at regular intervals in the morning and evening for even a few minutes’ helps to reduce the stress we feel. If you practice this exercise for 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the evening you will find that the inner voice in your head will quiet down. After you have put it aside it will not have as much power over you and you will develop inner peace.
Most important is to practice being nice to yourself in your day to day life. You will make mistakes, we all do. But when you do don’t get frustrated just calm yourself with the breathing exercise and let the feelings and frustrations wash over you like the current in a river.

The official goal for the project was fifty dollars! That's correct only 50 dollars, yet it is an amount that can help children to learn the basics of music and rhythm. So the project met the goal but they would like to get more money to purchase actual drums if possible. As a drummer I know well the cost of even used drumming equipment. Over the ensuing years I have managed to post a lot of works of various types, some photos some drawings. I have also posted stamps and may other types of works to my page. I think that it is important to have a place to post ones works where you can expect some decent critiques and some occasional love as well.
In the past 8 years I have seen a lot of changes in the way the site operates. Some of them have been good and some have been just plain different. But the one thing that has remained the same is the quality of wonderful people who inhabit this site. I have met thousands of people from all over the world and have watched as my DA friends have grown both in their talents and in their lives. I have seen people I know on this site meet in real life and get married, and sadly I have had some friends of mine on here who have passed away. Life is not always easy but with the quality of friends I meet here it is much easier than it could be.
Deviant Art offers people a place to be themselves and the opportunity to be expressive without the road blocks that would normally be placed in ones path of development. It is like a convention that runs year round and feeds the soul with inspiration. It has become the one place I stop at during my daily tour of life. As with many of my friends on this site I have grown and changed over the years. I have been an administrator to several groups. I have ran chat rooms here and worked with various causes on the site. I have donated countless subscriptions to many people, not for any material gain, but rather because I wanted to.
On this anniversary of DA's start I would join in my fellow Deviants to say welcome to any newcomers and thank you to the many who have followed my page through the years.

Lets see, I have been drawing, working on my designs and some actual drawings in Illustrator for a change. It is fun to get back into things that have been set aside for the time being. I am also working on some new projects for work as well. Mostly IT stuff but it is fun for me anyways. I have been invited to attend a free baseball game in the boxes by one of the local radio stations. It should be fun and free food and beer for all who show up. Now just to act civilized when I am in attendance!
TV shows... lets see I haven't watched any in over a month, so nothing there.. I am looking forward to some of the newer movies that are showing up soon to a theater near me. I don't know if any of you attend the theater so I won't bore you with show names.
Other than these things just biking and playing the drums as usual. I have been working on some of the finer pieces created by Megadeath and Judas Priest as well as several other metal selections. The drum patterns are complex and a bit tiring after a couple of hours but I am getting them together slowly but surely.

I hope that all of you are well! I have been building and fixing servers all of this week and I am sort of getting burnt out a bit on them for a couple of days! I bought a mac mini to play with and so far it is pretty good. I am not sure why people say that they don't lock up mine has locked up at least twenty times and it is only a few days old! Oh well, my older iPad locks up all the time as well. I think that apple has just built up their reputation a little too much. Still it seems like a solid machine. I am going to add the boot camp feature to include Windows 8 on the machine as well. That way I can handle work and home projects on it as well. I bought it mainly to post books to iBooks and to publish games onto the App store market. I installed a free copy of office for Mac that I had laying about in my swag drawer and it works the same as it does on my windows machines. Not quite as many bells and whistles but the basics are all there and it works well.
Other than that I am just working as usual. I hope you are all doing well. Be sure and chat back on this posting and share the love!
Taking time to gain this calmness can occur in as little as five minutes per day. This tiny slice of time is easy to work into your schedule if you make a note to do so. Better yet this time can be taken no matter where you are as you already have your mind with you everywhere that you go.
Simply sit down in a comfortable position, Take a breath in and count to five, hold it a second, then exhale counting to five in your mind. repeat this process counting up from one after each breath. IF a thought starts in your head simply start counting again and pay the thought no mind. Do this for five minutes per day, then after a few days find ten minutes to donate to this process. You can keep it at as little as ten minutes or go for longer periods of time it is up to you. This is all you have to do and soon you will find yourself to be more calm, more comfortable in difficult situations and more Centered.
