Custom Orlov Trotter Commission

This is the first dapple grey I have done, and he was completed in acrylics, Pigments, and pencil. I’m pretty happy with how he turned out, and I can’t wait to deliver him to his owner! He would look dashing in some snow scenes, wouldn’t he??

Breyer traditional Idocus to Orlov Trotter stallion.

Oh, an orlov trotter! Not so common breed in model horses. I've wondered why?

I like the varying dapples on him, interesting to see. Also noticed the resculpted details in his face that make him look more like an idividual, compared to only repainted models on the same mold (or generally in customizing). Even in that small amount.

I think it’s because most people aren’t aware of the breed. I only know of it because of Horseisle, and I think the same of my friend who commissioned it.

Yep, his face was resculpted a tad, to look more like the breed. He also has a new mane, as she wanted a more natural, grown-in look to him.

Thank you!

I know orlovs simply because they were the "original" light trotter breed used in my country, though todays they're replaced by standardbreds. But orlovs also had their part in the creation of our 'native' breed (what's similarly unseen in model world), which I find interesting. I think I have once met one orlov gelding, it wasn't a grey, but orlov anyway.

That's a good thing, that breed has (or had ages ago, have checked old photos) very varying individuals in it, some were very light and some looked like draft crosses.
