Hey there, Its been forever since I used Deviant art but I randomly found myself here today so im happy to give you any advice!

If im having trouble with a flat looking artwork I grab any pictures I have saved where I like the lighting or the colour scheme and blur the crap out of it, then throw it on top of the artwork and play around with layer blending modes. It can really give you a lot more colour and contrast depth that you wouldnt have originally thought of.

Same with textures, I love taking photos of textures so I can throw that bitch on overlay and you have instant details that you can paint over or just to give you fresh inspiration.

And with Layer styles you can just keep painting in light, with lets say a Screen layer for ambient light around the eye, and definaly Overlay layers of light around the eyeball to really brighten it up, and a dark purple Multiply layer to darken spots. And with that eye I overlayed a dungeon picture that I had done previously which gives it a more reflective look.

Annnyway, hopefully something in that info is helpful, good luck!!

Hahahha so true! always sports stores or home ware. Whenever I walk past I shed a single tear.

Aahhhh alright alright I shall attack on Locke my next reading bender, Back to the second hand bargain bookstores, the hunt is oonnn

I know right I dont even understand how there can be so many great characters all crammed into one book. I also had a major soft spot for Corporal Tunny, I just love slightly pathetic characters that have there moment of awesome. So many scenes in that book I want to draw, but as soon as I open the damn book to find a scene....whoops I ended up reading the half the damned thing.

Yea i've done some Game of thrones, not all ill admit. Havent read any short stories though, and no Jack Vance, ohh sounds intriguing. have a favorite?

Ohh Im so Naughty, I was part of the way through Name of the Wind, when I'll admit I got distracted when I picked up a cheap as chips Fools Quest and then realized I had to read at least 8 books before I was caught up, whoops, But ima coming back! Just as soon as I upgrade my prescription glasses.

Ah I did kind of forget about Locke Lamora! I read the first few chapters when Borders Bookstore was still a thing, a haven for peasants like me to use as a library. There was only the one book back then, but there is more now isn't there? I love it when I forget a series and then boom! come back and they are all waiting for me.

Oh no haven't read Tanith Lee, She has definitely been on my radar though, thanks!

Yea haven't hit up Prince of Thorns yet, was recommended it to when I was left with a gaping Joe Abercromie shaped hole after Red country. Didn't have the heart then, but time i'm told heals.

Welly welly welly if you have a high tolerance, One of my absolute all time favorites is the Stone dance of the Chameleon Trilogy by Ricardo Pinto. Nightmare to track down, and the first book is a bit of a slog with as its all politics and world building. But get though that and the rest is just so good. Never read anything like it :D

Ohhh I could go on forever, but a few cool ones you might wanna check

Night Angel Trilogy- Brent Weeks. Read them forever ago but recall them being pretty damn enjoyable.

Tales from the Ketty Jay series- Chris Wooding- Set in a steam punk air ship world. A crew of characters who are so pathetic you cannot help but root for em.

Most of Robin Hobb, start with Farseer- A bit slower, and sometimes you think you should be bored, but then you start carrying it around with you and are reading as you walk, eat, should be sleeping.

If ya got any awesome series, lemme know!
