After his death at the hands of Musashi, Kojiro was not yet ready to leave for the next world.

When the Soul King judged his heart, he determined his soul to be neutral enough to not merit heaven but not hell either, so he allowed Kojiro to reside at the Rukongai where as in life, Kojiro continued to practice his skills which eventually led him to the Shinigami Academy, where he not only improved his skill with the sword, but in the spiritual arts, until finally joining as part of the Gotei 13.

I think he could be a good fit for the 10th division, what do you think? Without a doubt I think Bleach is the ideal anime to connect characters from the past with those of the present without being forced or having to overly modify their stories.
