Exalted Space Lord, your fleet command center awaits! What fool would dare challenge your impenetrable might?

Place ships with the mouse. Try to give the "player" a fun time.

(this is a level design puzzle game - complete all 25 waves and you can submit your design to the Hall of Fame for other people to play!)

I made this game with the artists Pat Kemp (~knivel) and Jim Burner and the composer Teo Acosta. Pat came up with the concept and made the game art, Jim made the title screen and game over screen, and I did the programming and most of the design. Made with Flixel!

Space Lord was originally our entry for the Ludum Dare 25 game jam in December. The theme was YOU ARE THE VILLAIN! I thought it was worth polishing up, so I did. Here's the result!

This is the second game jam game I've polished and released, after The Love Letter, which I made the year before with Pat and Teo. You should also try that game if you haven't already! :D

You can play it on my site: [link]

You can play it on Kongregate with scores: [link]

You can play it on Newgrounds without ads: [link]

Hope you like it! :)

This is a really good idea. I could see this being expanded into something bigger.

Thanks! (And, it's a pleasant surprise to find you here on dA, by the way) :) What kind of something bigger do you imagine, exactly?

I think the idea of playing the "villain" fighting against a virtual player is really fun. There are lots of ways you could go with that. It's not completely unprecedented either, the Dungeon Keeper series has a similar approach. I just think it's an interesting angle to take on a game.

Somehow this gem was not in my favorites.

It's such a cool idea haha. The music is awesome as well :D

Thanks! :D I just updated it so you can share your levels for other people to play against as the ship!

Would you mind beating the game and submitting your score to the Hall of Fame so I can test it out?

Sure thing man, done and done :)

Took me a while to be able to beat it again, haha. I am ashamed of my score. I'll have to try your patterns out!

Okay, I think I fixed the bug, but I had to delete your score, sorry. :( Maybe you could try again sometime? :)

If you do, make sure to throw in some waves with seven or eight of the pink enemies in a row - that seemed to cause the problem before.

Darn. Guess I'll just have to play again, what a chore... =P (kidding)

I'll try it ASAP :) When you say a "in a row" of the pink enemies, do you mean consecutive stages, or the literal rows where you place your ships?

Also, can the Hall of Fame only be accessed after beating the game, in order to test other's patterns?

By "in a row" I mean in a literal row when you place the ships. :p

The Hall of Fame can be accessed after losing as well, when you kill the player ship.

Awesome!

Unfortunately the player died for me at wave 29 @_@ I'll try again soon.

I got to play some of the new levels in the Hall of Fame though - that's such a cool feature! It's really interesting to see how everyone makes different patterns, haha. I was surprised by yours at first with all the blocks of ships in the beginning stages.

Yeah, I'm thinking of cutting down the number of waves to just 25, as I know it kind of stretches on a bit at the end. Maybe hold off until I make that change. ;)

Those blocks of ships are a great way to maximize fun score in the early waves. :)

Oh wait, I think I've figured out the problem - it's not a data storage issue, it's something simple I should be able to fix... :)
axcho's avatar
Awesome, it's so cool to play someone else's levels for the game! :D

Unfortunately it seems like the data got cut off after Wave 24... I'll have to look into that - it may just that there's a limit on how much data I can store at once. :(

I could probably make some better waves now that I've got some experience, so that probably works out for the better haha.

I love the music for this, and the concept of the game is challenging at first. Another winner!

Thanks! :D I think Teo did a great job on the music, too.
