I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you mean.

While certainly visually striking, unfortunately this photograph lacks much else. It can be said that appeal with simplicity is valuable, but this is perhaps too simple; there is missing the impression of timing or composition, with the shot relying too much on the vision of the architect rather than any quality inherent to the frame.

More interesting, perhaps, would have been including the architecture in a larger shot. Photograph it against a drab sky, photograph it with people, even a slight tilt to the shot or the addition of perspective could make all the difference. Anything to add situational contrast and to portray it rather than simply show it. Something to convey that this is more than just a pattern. As I see it, it misses that mark.

Huh. I don't critique often, so forgive my poor formatting and such. Anyway, I'll start with what drew me to look at this piece: the detail. This easily ranks among the most intricate of pony-related pieces of artwork I've seen, to the point that it's sort of distracting.

The armour definitely has the Rule of Cool about it, but any further inspection reveals that much of the piece appear to remain unfinished; her wings, her mane, and her tail all retain a sketch-like quality about them, which contrasts poorly against the armour. Further, it seems that while the leggings and chest-plate received careful colouration and shading, her wings and wing guards were not so lucky. That brings two problems for the wings. I won't bother mentioning the background etc. as it was admittedly not the focus of the artist's efforts.

When it comes down to it, this is extremely striking on first glance yet only goes downhill from there. The armour design is most definitely creative, and the overall style (while inconsistent) is pleasing to the eye, however the busyness of the armour and the lack of attention elsewhere prevent this from being more than it is — Cool, yes. Awe-inspiring, no.

I'm guessing my point didn't get across clearly? I wasn't commenting on people needing a tutorial, I was commenting on the poor design of the new site making it so a once-obvious feature isn't anymore.

To be completely clear, I think it's awesome that you made a guide to help people, and I do understand that some people need help! My problem is with DA itself and the unintuitive changes they're making. I'm sorry if that wasn't clear... though I'm a little taken aback by the "snobbish" comment.
