The very model of a scientist Salarian! Quite literally!

This is a papercraft template for Mordin Solus from Mass Effect 2. To elaborate, this contains files for you to print off and build your own version with.

Retrospective: One of my favourites and an attempt at retaining some more detail. My version has fallen apart sadly. Make sure you weigh his feet down otherwise you will have endless balance issues.

-------Read Before Downloading!-------

43MB RAR file containing PDO and PDF files to print from or reference. 18 pages and 211 parts. Included are Mordin in both his default and alternative 'loyalty' textures (I have built the alternate one here) with both lined and lineless versions available. Scaled almost with the other models. In truth he could do with another 1-2cm as he towers over most other characters in game.

You can open the RAR archive with software such as WinRAR, Alzip, 7Zip. Google is your friend!

You can open the PDO files with Pepakura Viewer downloadable free here: www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en…

Please do use this as it's immensely helpful as a resource and will show you exactly where parts go. It doesn't work on Macs unfortunately though.

Difficulty: 9/10 (Construction...*sniff*...problematic. Make sure you have some experience in these things.)

Other notes are that he will probably keep falling forwards. So be prepared to add a ton of weight to his feet, gently bend them backwards or prop them up with something.

I love starting with extremes, so this is gonna be my first ever papercraft!! I just started it today and finished the first leg. It's challenging but super fun. Beautiful work here. Thank you so much!!

Thank you for building! I recommend taking care that his legs stand properly in the early phases, as the model is slightly unbalanced.

Yup! Put about seven to ten pennies in his one foot that I have done. Starting the second leg today. The biggest problem has been figuring out where I can put a foot and a half tall figure lol

Sounds like you're off to a good start then. :)

I must admit my desk is getting a bit crowded will all the big figures...

This looks so unbelievably detailed... Tali's bootknife is the detail that got me. These are fantastic

Thanks, they all start off from the game's original 3D models- I then simplify them massively, whilst trying to retain the correct shape and all the interesting bits of detail. ;)

Well they're very impressive!

Oh man, I'M SO EXCITED TO TRY THIS. And fail miserably. But still, Mordin papercraft = win.

Thanks a lot! Without sugar coating things he's a bit tricky in places :nuu: but correct tools/materials and use of the PDO files will help a great deal!

Hey, this is pretty awesome! Do you know anywhere I can find other models, such as Thane and Kasumi?

Hmm as far as I know, only DaiShiHUN has been making other ME characters on a similar scale: [link]
(Grunt, Blood Dragon armour Shep, Niftu Cal)

There's also some Normandy, Mako and Shuttle templates floating around on deviantArt somewhere.

Cool, thanks. Thane is the main one I'm looking for, or I might even try making it myself if I knew how.

I'm biting off more than I can chew as I've never done any papercraft before ^^; however I'm gona try making this anyway. If I screw up I'll just reprint the piece I was working on. We'll see if I can actually do this.

This is awesome btw! I was trying to find a Mordin action figure online but it seems they're unavailable, so this was awesome to find! Thanks so much!

Goodness, you've set yourself a bit of a challenge then!

Just make sure you use appropriate paper and glue and use the PDO file with Pepakura Viewer for part references (downloadable free, PC only though). Don't worry, I had to remake several parts when testbuilding (the 1st version of the head didn't work well, for example) so there's no shame in printing things again!

Sadly I have a Mac so I'm gonna have to go into this thing blind ^^; but I really like your instructions. Seeing photos helps a bunch! I figures regular printing paper wouldn't work :) oh, just though of something. Are you from the US? Your paper sizes are different from ours (we use A4, A3 etc and I believe the US uses papers based on inches) will I need to worry about that at all?
DO you have a good recommendation of the type of glue I should buy that won't get the paper too soggy?
(XD;; I just realised I could look these questions up so sorry if I'm bugging you)

Ah well you're braver than me! The PDO is very handy but not essential. Hopefully Mordin isn't too confusing but I can always make a quick tab/edge guide if you get stuck anywhere. :)

I'm from the UK so all my templates are on A4 so you should be alright by the sounds of it. Printer paper is a big no, even for simple models IMHO (far too weak). I used 160gsm (grams per sq. metre) paper for all these ME2 models with great results; I think it's the best balance between strength and ease of manipulation. Generally they could probably be built with anything from 120-200gsm.

As for glue, cheap ordinary PVA works great. You don't even have to apply that much either, a small blob along the tab edges is often enough as it will be squeezed along the rest of the surface when pressured, but not overspill (bad!).

Don't worry, I don't mind helping people who are genuinely interested in building these guys. But it is a bit unwieldy to list everything in a comment box! For more general info check out the Papercraft Museum's beginner and advanced tutorials: [link]

From what I saw I think I can keep it straight and hopefully not get too confused :D
And that's good to know. I was concerned that if the paper sizes were different it might try to resize the pages which wouldn't work very well.

Anyway, thank you for all the tips and for the great link! :D and thanks once again for the papercraft model.

How tall is he fully constructed?

My version leans forwards slightly, but I'd say he should be between 46-47cm from feet to his tallest horn/prong.
