*Old photos replaced! New dA download link*

This is my 3rd Mass Effect 2 papercraft template, Liara T'Soni based on her appearance from the rather good Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC.

Built over 18 days with the majority being done in the first 6. Though I had other pressing matters in between so it got a bit delayed.

Follow the download link below to get the resources you need to print and build your own version!

Retrospective: I am aware the face isn't very good by current standards, but it is difficult to simplify human faces into something smaller than a golf ball. It was a good learning experience for my later humanoid models in any case.

-------Read Before Downloading-------

It's a 22MB RAR file which contains PDFs and PDOs to print from or use as references. 16 pages, 199 pieces in total including the optional Tempest SMG. Just one colour scheme for this one. Stands ~43.5cm tall.

You can open the RAR archive with software such as WinRAR, Alzip, 7Zip. Just search around! ;)

You can open the PDO files with Pepakura Viewer downloadable free here: www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en…

Please do use this as it's immensely helpful as a resource and will show you exactly where parts go. It doesn't work on Macs unfortunately though.

Difficulty: 8.75/10 (Some awkward areas, experience will be required)

Hello, I have a question:
Do you have any models that you can recommend as practices for this. I used to do papercraft....4 years ago (some low poly models) so I have some experience... I guess...if low poly stuff counts.
I'm still looking  for a place that prints on thicker papers so I wanted to get some practices (and ask the best for help at the process)

Hi, I'd recommend searching and checking out Ninjatoes' models: ninjatoes.wordpress.com

They are from a variety of games/tv/films, are not overly complex, and always have really well designed templates and instructions. From my own models, the easiest ones are the N64 Zelda templates found here: hyrulepapercraft.blogspot.co.u…

If you feel like moving on to something more complex, the ME2 Tali model is the easiest of all my big figures.

Thank you ^-^
Your work is amazing and I want to assemble a lot of the Mass Effect models you make.

Damn! Those're very good but where is Thane model? Thane and Femshep may look good together.
Avrin-ART's avatar
Thanks!

I'm pretty indifferent towards Thane; at least his face wouldn't be as hard to edit as a regular human but I've not really got the drive to produce a model of him.

Love this so much! Will you at any point make the breather mask for Liara to go with this?
Avrin-ART's avatar
Thanks :) but no sorry I don't plan on making any addons for previous models.

rofl the face looks creepy

Ha well yeah the bottom right pic doesn't do it much justice. :p

That's why I prefer editing the less human looking aliens as the shape changes during simplification are less of a problem/less likely to look odd.

Looks better than that official Liara statue they had for sale on BioWare's website... at least this Liara isn't in that sexed up pose and tiny baby face looking more like a dancer instead of the dangerous Shadow Broker.
Avrin-ART's avatar
This one isn't super accurate since the editing process can change the shape of the orignal face a lot- the bottom right pic certainly isn't flattering, she looks better in real life!

But yes that statue...ehh...the stylisation makes it looks pretty silly. It's obvious what they were trying to do but I agree it's a big disservice to her actual in-game character.

I was wondering if painting the lines with paint that matches the skin tone close enough would help with smoothing out her face?

But in any case, lines comes with paper craft... I need to make this, and hope either a better statue comes out for sale, or learn to sculpt my own damn Liara.

Seams can't be avoided but the face shows them up the most, being more detailed for the size. :(

White edges are a pain but you can colour them with a steady enough hand! I don't know about paint, sounds a bit risky- I use pens or soft watercolour pencils. Or do you mean actually painting the paper surface near the joins to try and remove the 'stepped' overlap effect of the parts?
WolfOfSahara's avatar
I meant painting the joins to try and soften the "stepped" overlap, yes. I thought thick and opaque paint such as gouache or acrylic, applied with size 00 brush or something with really fine point, might does something. ... toothpick maybe.

I need to buy heavier paper before I can start. When finish if worked will link a photo?

I really love the textures on these guys. Good job :D

Yeah they look fantastic with all the shaders and bump maps in-game and the lovely 1024x1024 BMPs work great for models! The camera can't really show it, but the textures on the faces of Liara and Mordin are amazing!

Good job Xenonray

I've started with a part that looked the most difficult -head. Finished it looks like this:
[link]
I've used normal, thin paper to make edges of parts less visible. Now I'm starting to build legs.
Avrin-ART's avatar
Lovely work, and good idea to use lighter paper. Would regular paper be strong enough though?
For me, I just accept there will be edges but try to arrange them so they are less visible.
half-halfling's avatar
For the head thin paper seems OK.
Here's the next part -legs and a part of torso: [link] .
It was a very good idea to add some weight to the feet -it makes model a lot more stable.
So far there were no problems, everything fits perfectly.
Avrin-ART's avatar
Glad to here that, and it looks good so far!
I always add weights just in case, though my Mordin still has horrible balance issues even with his feet stuffed full of coins and blu-tack putty.

It's finally completed :). You can see my Liara here: [link]

I think I've used too dark colour to paint the edges of parts on fer face, but aside of this I'm very happy about the result. Thanks for this model, and I'm looking forward for more :).
Wow! That's an amazing papercraft I can't wait to try and make Liara she's one of my favorite characters from Mass Effect. If you do a Shepard will you make a female Shepard template too? I would love to have a papercraft femShep decked out in her N7 armor :D (For BroShep you could always do the stock face from the cover, there's supposed to be a stock femshep in a ME3 promo sometime as well!)

Again thank you so much for this papercraft! :3
