A/N: This was a long thing to wait for, huh? Sorry about that. If you're at all surprised by this, I'd like to mention that my New Year's resolution this year was to finish all the stories I've ever put out on the internet, and since the season three for Free! is supposed to come out this year, this was on the top of my list! I'll try to update this story as much as I can, hopefully I'll get a new chapter out every week. Thank you for reading, and enjoy! ♥
When you woke up the next morning, the first thing you did was put in your hearing aids. "Rei?" you yelled, looking around. He appeared moments later, dressed for school. Scrambling out of your sleeping bag, you stretched and yawned as he handed you one of his spare uniforms.
You thanked him gratefully, walking into the bathroom and quickly changing clothes. The uniform fit almost perfectly, though it was a size or two larger than you were used to. Despite that, you met Rei at the door, and together, you walked to the train station.
***************Time skip brought to you by chibi Nagisa trying to glomp you****************
"Nagisa," you practically yelled as you met him and the others on the rooftop, "I've already told you. I can't afford waterproof hearing aids!" He put up his arms in defeat, sitting down in between Haru and Makoto. "Okay, okay," Nagisa said with a slight pout. "I'm sorry y/n." You sighed inwardly, hesitantly sitting down next to Haru. After the last time you talked, you were a little bit nervous to be around him.
"Hi Haru," you mumbled. He looked at you with his normal unfazed expression, but you could feel what could be described as awkward coldness rolling off of him in gentle waves and practically pushing you away. You nervously scooted towards Makoto instead, inaudibly whimpering.
"So y/n, how'd you enjoy staying at Rei's house?" Makoto quickly asked you, saving you from Haru's silent wrath. "Was it worth the last slice of pizza?"
You nodded, smiling lightly. "Yeah," you replied. "I'm really glad I agreed to go. Even if we didn't do much..."
"Would you be willing to stay at my house then?" Nagisa asked you, grinning. "We could watch a movie or something, your choice!" Everyone looked at you for your answer, making you laugh nervously.
"Is this gonna become a thing now?" you ask jokingly. "All of you are gonna invite me over to your house?" They all looked to one another and shrugged. "If I agree to go, can it wait a bit? I would love to go, don't get me wrong! I just think this shouldn't be a process that happens, like, one sleepover after another. Is that okay with you guys?"
"Well yeah, of course y/n!" Nagisa said. "We really just wanna hang out with you, but if you're not comfortable with it then it can always wait." You smile, saying a small thank you and continuing to eat your lunch. There was a pleasant silence between all of you; it was one of the first times that for once not a single one of you had anything to say. But you were okay with that, since nobody seemed to be upset about it or anything.
When the bell rang, you were the first to stand, shooting everyone a toothy grin before brushing some dust off yourself. "See you guys later!" you said to your group of friends as you packed up your bag, exiting the roof through the closest door.
**********************Dang, I'm on a roll with these time skips, huh?**********************
Your classes flew by like a blur, and soon you were walking out of your last period, and heading to the platform to go home. You sent a few quick texts to Makoto, Nagisa, and Haru as a way to say goodbye since you wouldn't see them, and then pocketed your cell when Rei came into view. "Hey!" you greeted with a toothy grin when he made it up to you, your e/c eyes closing happily. "You have a good day?"
"Of course," he said with a small nod, adjusting his red glasses so they no longer sat crookedly on his nose. "I assume you did as well?"
"Yeah, things are really going well for me. I hope our other friends are having the same luck as we are. You excited to get back home?" You ask, looking around as you hear the sound of the train. As you both board, you hardly hear his answer.
"A little," he mumbles. You slightly frown as you scoot into some seats, Rei sitting down beside you. "I don't know, living by myself can be a bit boring at times. But it's alright, at least you all can visit me on occasion." You nod in response and look out the window, watching all the scenery pass by.
'I wonder how often I can be around Rei before he gets annoyed with me,' you think to yourself. 'Hopefully, he'll always enjoy my company...'
