This image is kind of confusing. I had at first thought that the trilobites were acting in the capacity of cleaner/scavengers for the remipedes critter.

Yeah, that would help. You might also see if you can blur the linework on him to push him further into the background - I think its as much an issue of line weight as it is of the bright colors.
Yes, it's a bit better. I'd say you might also want to make remipedes' claws and eyes less brightly white. Right now, they're the focus of the composition because they have the starkest contrast with everything else. I'm still losing the little trilobites to those pieces.
