At first glance, I knew this picture was something certainly worth looking at-- it stood out in my inbox, and I opened a tab to view it, which automatically means it's something good, considering I usually just click the "x" and glance at thumbnails. Your presentation is very theatrical and I love the screenshot quality of this. The way you draw, in general, is a way that draws the viewer into what you're seeing and putting down on the digital canvas, and that's certainly something to be admired.

So... a breakdown.

THE SUBJECT: you've certainly captured Bramblepaw well, especially with the anatomy of a young cat. His large, expressive eyes, oversized ears and head, and gaping mouth are simply perfect, as well as his already-broad shoulders and wonderfully textured chest fur. The only qualms I have would be the positioning of the back legs-- they appear to be a bit far to the left, giving him the appearance that he's off-balance-- and the pose in general. This scene is filled with energy and wonder, and you've captured it in his face, but it would have been lovely to see it in his body as well. A couple of other (good!) notes: I love how you blurred the latter half of his body, and I'd enjoy seeing you taking off the dark lines and going lineless-- I'm certain you'd do quite well at it.

BACKGROUND & PRESENTATION: this is what caused most of your star loss on my rating. While I love the mysteriosity and depth the blurred far-background gives, I find that the empty space leaves something to be desired. It would have been lovely to see Fireheart in this scene (unless, of course, it's being shown through his eyes) as well as more of a perspective on the forest around him. All we, the viewers, know is that he's on a patch of grass in the snow. And, on the topic of the snow-- I *love* how you made it so three-dimensional! It looks almost like it's from a photograph. The light at the back is also excellent, but again, a little bit vague-- while it does give a bit of an ethereal vibe to the whole scene, it could be improved by shaping the world around him with some detail.

Well, I hope this helped, and wasn't either too harsh or too worshippy or praise-filled. (comparing my ratings to your other critiquers, I'd say this isn't exactly an amazing critique... they gave you much better ratings. Sorry! D<img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" title=":) (Smile)" /> This is only my second critique, after all.

The first thought I had upon seeing this was "sob, this is so amazing it makes me want to leap out of the window and fly like the character"

...I swear that's a good thing! In terms of all the rating categories that we're supposed to critique on, you definitely succeeded the most at IMPACT. The way you use the empty space in this image is incredible, as well as the way the character fills it up. And don't get me started on your skills with perspective and blurring! ...or your nearly perfect anatomy.

The way you use the common ballpoint pen is beautiful. You've really, honestly, brought this character to life. He's flying away from us, the viewers, and into paperland! er... i have a feeling I'm not being too eloquent about this.

kerhem.

The only one anatomy issue I would see with this (and you might not want to trust my judgment, considering I know nothing about anatomy compared to you) would be the foreleg we see. For some reason I feel its angle is a bit off, and it should be a bit more in front of the character-- that is, from a viewer's perspective, a bit to the right.

But honestly, that's the only problem I see here. My favorite part of this overall is the way the left wing is extending out towards us, and the way you (as always) skillfully and strategically blur!

muchlove, and I hope this was what I'm supposed to do in a critique. This is my first ;o;

I think it got taken down by dA-- that sort of poster was against regulations, I believe. Alas!
