The Silver Needle and the Mountain Stream

The pen hovers above the drawing pad, A silver needle stitched into the silence Of the white paper. This is the edge of the transition: The heavy pause before the ink breaks, The sudden spark where the abstract Becomes a solid, permanent line. Then comes the momentum, the quickening pulse, As the first stanza spills like a mountain stream. The nib glides across the tooth of the paper With a velocity the mind can barely track. Metaphors gather weight as they roll And speed like water in a narrow valley Tumbling forward until the ink flows like a Living current from the mind to the waiting paper, Blurring the border between the hand and the thought. The letters lean forward, breathless and urgent, Tracing the path of a feeling that refuses to stay still. It is the rhythm of a heart finding its stride. Poem: Old Soul's Grief

(337 words) The unbidden feeling arrived this morning without a concrete reason. Without making itself known beforehand. It simply opened inside of me like a brittle seam suddenly giving way to a taste of iron behind the tongue, to salty tears and a pressure in the ribs. As if something inside is folding outward to make space for a different, for an ancient kind of ache. I began to search my life for the fresh wound, for the obvious cause of this hurt. For the one clean story that would make this feeling make sense and be explainable. But I find nothing but ordinary hours and intact doors, some opening, some closed for good. Yet still, something inside me is bleeding, like remembering with the wrong organ. And the open seam begins to feel like a tear in the fabric of the current day, where another life finally pushes through. I believe in Old Souls, and I believe they carry the ever-changing weather from other lives. And sometimes those storms return without warning, because the
