How has deviantART helped you grow as an individual and/or as an artist?
Before I started going on DA, I mainly just did funny sketches in my drawing book. I'd draw memories, dreams, jokes and a lot of fanart. Some of the art in my drawing book I wasn't confident showing my friends or laughed them off if they asked about it. It wasn't their fault, I just wasn't confident at sharing at the time.
One of the first pictures in my book and the other are funny sketches
As time went on, my drawing skill improved slightly from drawing characters I liked from pictures. I'd heard of DA for years but had only read fancomics off it but eventually I wanted a wider audience for my drawings and maybe an audience that might appreciate it more. I felt like maybe I had something to contribute.
Some of my drawing book stuff as I'm improving...
I just draw as a hobby, and I don't need others to appreciate my work when I already do. DA has been a great archiving tool for all my art, I look through older works more now and they're preserved electronically. Seeing others' works on this site has inspired me to try new techniques, explore other's sense of humour, appreciate different things and improve my art over time. I'm confident in my art again. I show it to my friends and family, DA groups, friends and watchers and just myself when I visit the site. I joined a discord through a DA group which gave me new friends and opportunities. I'm archiving non-drawing art now and expanding into digital art. I even borrowed out a basic art book and worked through it.
Pretty much my first attempt with Krita and a drawing tablet
I don't have a set goal in mind other than to improve and continue art as I enjoy it. I can say DA has helped my confidence and for me to meet other people who like my art
These works show my jump to digital art. As I still do a lot of my sketching on paper. The easy-to-use tools and colours have really sold me to this medium
It's amazing how fast things have gone really
