In Need Of Some Zoid Blox Joints

Tue Jun 12, 2018, 5:10 AM

Skin designed & coded by CypherVisor

Hey everyone! I'm running low on the blox pegs and I use them quite a bit to make smaller zoids poseable and small joints in larger ones. So if anyone has extras laying around collecting dust I'd be happy to have them and pay for the shipping. I use the liger zero/shield liger size caps as their sockets and I think I'm good on those, but if anyone has extras of those too I'd be interested. Just PM me or comment below~ Thanks! =D

DIY HMM Battle Cougar (Completed!)

Mon Oct 2, 2017, 8:04 AM

So this didn't take too long but I wasn't sure how it was going to come out so I didn't post any WIPS like I normally do. I actually have it all completely painted as well, but my SD card for my good camera broke and I need to get a new one before I can take proper pictures to post a good deviation on. In the meantime I figured I'd just make a usual journal post about it with the unavoidable Chloe bombs.

And speaking of Chloe, she's the reason why this all happened in the first place. For those of you who don't know, Battle Cougar's one of my top favs and I really mean it's in the top 3. I love griffons and I love Battle Cougar's almost organic flow to its design. Well I had my favorite repainted battle cougar proudly standing on a shelf near my computer cuz I was showing it to a friend at the time and it was not his usual perched spot. Both Syerra and Chloe were running around chasing each other per usual and Chloe makes a mad leap onto my computer cart and then shelf at blazing speed and before I knew it, Chloe smacked right into Battle Cougar and knocked it down to the ground, shattering its pegs. I tried gluing them back on but unless they weren't back on perfectly, it wouldn't work. So since this one one of my absolute favorite customs, I immediately thought of ways to salvage it and came to the conclusion that one of my DIY HMMS was the only option. Luckily I had a spare HMM Schneider and Battle Cougar promptly went into the Zoid ER.

So the next issue was how do you take the Battle Cougar with its single plastic chunk legs and make it poseable.... you don't lol. I went more with what I wanted and was happy enough if it looked vaguely Battle Cougary. And honestly I was surprised with how close to the original he ended up being as well as looking like how an upgraded HMM would. I know the Japanese hobby magazines always show grade up HMM DIYs using the Command Wolf as a base seeing their bodies are the same size, but I like the proportions when using the larger HMMs like zero for them better. Grade Up zoids always looked like their heads were too big to me lol. Since then I have also acquired two new little battle cougars in a lot. One was missing its head horn and eye piece, so I was able to give it my original Battle Cougar's pieces to complete it. The eye pieces, cockpit, and horn on the HMM version are actually Zero's.

So this is during painting and not the completed paint job, but you get a good idea how it looks completed and how well all the parts blend..

Then here's so prepainted pics with a very photogenic Chloe.

This cat is so ridiculous. I'm not even kidding when I say she stood and posed like this with them when I moved to take the front pic.

And not shown is the zoid core can still be taken out and the hoses and fan on the back and sides are there.

DIY HMM Brastle Tiger : 02

Well got a lot accomplished this weekend with just needing to do the other side's legs now. The body's about 100% done other than putting some screens in and I'd like to ad some more to the chest armor where it leaves that gap between the Brastle's original parts and the Saber's. I also did the same with the hind legs as I did with Mugen's, shorten that femur about a half an inch. I'm really happy that he turned out exactly like I had hoped. I nice big bulky strong looking tiger. I like how even though I haven't painted him yet, you can barely see the original Saber's parts, which was a big thing I didn't like in most other DIY HMM Brastle's I've seen. It's why I always recommend to try using as much from the original zoid as much as possible. The HMM should only be your skeleton to build up from. And I just realized I forgot to photograph it, but all the panels still open, even the lower leg ones.

DIY HMM Brastle Tiger : 01

So I've been missing having a Brastle Tiger and I found a nice used one on ebay. Course I couldn't just have a regular old Brastle Tiger, I wanted a HMM Brastle Tiger. As you can tell by the photos I opted to sacrifice my HMM Shubaltz custom for it since it was getting pretty damn worn out. All of the hoses rotted out and it was missing quite a bit of pieces.

I've seen a few DIY HMM Brastle Tigers and I haven't been too crazy over them. They just needed more bulk. So what I'm doing is raising the back pieces and shoulder/hip armor pieces on the legs and fill in to give it a stronger/more powerful look. So far I haven't had too much trouble though I will say lining up the pieces for his leg armor to be placed on the HMM leg is pretty difficult. Not sure if anyone else has the armor pieces that go on the lower section of the legs still open (which was also a pain).

Wanted to give a little preview of my Whitz Tiger Nemesis (named so because I took the colors from Nemesis Prime and TFA Cyclonus lol). Took only a few hours to make him completely poseable. So I do have a new way of making the paws poseable with these bigger models. I first tested out the idea on a junk Saber with good results so it was ready to be utilized. I just mimicked the HMM joints but with a bionicle joint and utilizing the model's original peg that connects the legs to the paws. This allows such an incredible range of poseability, but keeps the bionicle joint very well hidden. Basically what happens is the bionicle joint controls the side to side motion with a bit up and down while the peg controls most of the up and down motion. And being up and away from the paw allows the paw to clear the leg parts way more than what just the single bionicle joint could. ALSO NO CHLOE PHOTOBOMBING!?!? Miracles do happen.

And in case you ever wanted to know what's inside Whitz, this guy had about 14 gears shoved in. It's actually quite impressive how they utilized about every bit of space.

Posey Shadow Fox

Just wanted to share this quick little project I did last night. It seems like making the motorized zoids poseable has kinda died out since the Koto kits came out, but I still think it's fun to do every now and then. I picked up the extra Shadow Fox recently to mess around with so figured I'd make it poseable. For those of you who have a ZA zoid, this fox's hip and shoulder joints are the same. Double ball jointed and you can pull the arm out a bit more to allow more poseability. In these pics, they're just in their fully closed in position. I didn't want to mess with it too much last night to allow the glue to fully cure.

Lidier Painted Preview

Wed Apr 12, 2017, 5:39 AM

Skin designed & coded by CypherVisor

Ok so last preview WIP until he's all completed. I did all of this Monday night cuz it's the only time I'm around in order to tune in to Radio Dead Air lol  I was able to make this really gorgeous blood red (original Lidier's red is super bright cherry red lol) and it goes to show how much craft paints have improved over the years as there is no scratching off paint at the joints where I know do rub. The silver color is also specialty made and has Lidier's purple/blue tint in it. I also love you can see how beautifully it reflects colors/lighting as well. The only problem with the silver is I used a new brush and it decided to shed bristles into it so I might be sanding down a few places and painting over. I just love how much everything's really pulling together now. If nothing else, he proves these older models with very little pieces can still become HMMs easily.

And my first attempt at photographing Lidier (thank you Chloe. I know you think the world revolves around you)

HMM Lidier Completed Build

Finally got around to finishing up my HMM Lidier custom. He's now pretty much my favorite thing ever lol. I love how liony he turned out and is even better than how I thought it would all turn out from my initial concepts. For those who haven't been following this project, my HMM Lidier uses a HMM Lightning Saix as a base. Most customs I've seen with the grade-up sized zoids (like actual grade-up zoids such as the King Liger and Zeekdober) use a HMM Command Wolf as a base, but I felt the Saix was a much better choice since it already matched Lidier's streamlined look and I felt the proportions were much better. Lidier definitely looks like the fast little zoid he was meant to be. I'll hopefully be painting him this week and wrap up this project completely~

I gave him a bath once I was finished to get all the dust off lol

It's hard to see them since his mane hides them well, but yes he does still have the chest mounted guns

Little comparison shot of the original back mounted gun and my homemade one

And we all know a certain someone can't be upstaged lol

ZA Liger Zero Release

Thu Feb 2, 2017, 5:38 AM

Skin designed & coded by CypherVisor

Kinda behind on this one but if you haven't heard, the next release in the Zoids Aggressive line is the Liger Zero, which I'm totally not surprised by. Looks like their sticking to popular vote (also not surprising). But yeah if you're not sick of Liger Zeros than this is up for preorder (ami ami, Hobby Link Japan, 1999 Hobby Store, etc). I am surprised however that they did make the armor removeable on this one, but the interchangeable claws are cool. Personally I think it looks a lot like the KFM version as far as the design goes.

More images at ami ami

In other news, I just went back to the free domain name for my zoids website cuz tight on budget and wasn't going to pay more just to have a name so now it's auroralionzoids.weebly.com. I did just post some new pics of my OJR King Liger though as I have a slight obsession with the King Liger and now own two ORJ ones :'D

Blade Liger FNF custom WIP

Thu Jan 12, 2017, 3:48 AM

Skin designed & coded by CypherVisor

Been awhile so I figured I'd share some WIPs of my latest project. Currently working on an Blade Liger Forest and Night Fight custom since I have always wanted that version of the Blade Liger but funds say no. So got a junked Blade Liger off ebay and made my own lol The mint color is especially hard to photograph but it does look more like the original's mint color in person, albeit toned down some. The other color that didn't photograph well is the teeth and claw color since they look silver in these when they're actually a taupe color. I'm really happy how the colors turned out though in all. Forgot to mention that the mint and the dark green are custom colors I made.

And here's a bonus sneak peak of Chaos Murasame! I just finished him up last weekend so I'll be taking pics soon. Now to see how many of my old watchers remember Chaos lol

Bootleg HMM Shield Liger Review

Wed Dec 28, 2016, 5:18 AM

Skin designed & coded by CypherVisor

So I took a chance and purchased the BT Black Knight Shield Liger, which is a bootleg of the Kotobukiya HMM Shield Liger, and honestly, it's seriously better than the official version. I'm not sure if was intentional or just the result from copying the official molds, but the Black Knight version has much tighter joints and parts resulting in a model that not only can pose and stay, but also will age better. There's even some design flaws that have been fixed. It's so nice to have a HMM Shield Liger where the head and neck can stay up and not droop down. Even the vent side panel pieces are a lot tighter and don't flop all over the place. You can actually pose those, pick it up and move it all around, and they won't budge. Another improvement is the rear end doesn't constantly fall off as I had to glue all my HMM Shield/Blade Ligers. One big mold change is the top flap that goes on the paws. If you've ever built the official HMM version, you'll know that those things constantly just pop off and are a pain to put on and make them stay. Here that mold was changed to have bigger pegs causing the two bumps you see on the bootleg's paws.

For how much I originally disliked the HMM Shield Liger, I found myself really loving this one and a lot of that is due to the new canopy piece. It does come with the standard clear orange one too so you can swap them out. Now with these tighter pieces, you might have to sand down pegs first or use a pair of pliers to close pieces together, but like I said before, it actually stays together. Unfortunately the BT Black Knight Shield Liger still shares the same design flaws and problems, such as the legs falling off due to the too short pegs and the mechanism in the body to allow the forelegs to move up and down still needs its column piece glued to the top one. It also shares the problem of those big wire pieces that go from the neck to the back not wanting to stay in.

Pros:
:bulletpink: Tighter parts & joints (Yay nice really stiff neck and head!)
:bulletpink: Definitely seems like it's going to age a lot better
:bulletpink: Cool alternate canopy piece
:bulletpink: Price is very cheap

Cons:
:bulletpink: Unofficial bootleg
:bulletpink: Still shares a few of the official version's flaws
:bulletpink: Requires a little more time/work with the construction

Konig Wolf Lacerate

Mon Aug 15, 2016, 6:27 PM

Skin designed & coded by CypherVisor

Finally (mostly) finished up one of my million zoid projects. At least as far as customizing goes. Just need to paint him up now. Color wise I'm thinking of matching his colors to the Liger Zero X/Hailstorm's since in my head I was thinking he'd be an Imperial Zoid deployed along side it. I had that the empire looked to gain back their lost of the Liger Zero's plans being stolen and it came by them getting a hold of a Konig. Not only were they able to reverse engineer it, but they also perfected its main flaw of overheating thanks to their experienced knowledge of zoids' cool downs and fans from the charged particle tech. Obviously as going to go with an Anubis themed look ;D

And his armor is completely removable :)

And before you think Chloe didn't photobomb, she did but I scooted her butt out of the picture xD But she was always next to me while I was working as she's now completely immune to the dremel's noise.
This is what she did most of the time:

Though she did get up to try and get my attention on a few occasions (of course)

So I actually made quite a lot of progress on this guy since last. I found I was able to nicely fit the whole rear end piece right over the Saix's. Made it way too convenient and the Saix's gun holder even fits perfectly in Lidier's slot where its weapon pack went. Just need to fill in some gaps leftover. Legs were pretty straightforward too. Just needs to use the Saix's armor to extend it some though on the shoulders/hips since the size difference.

And as you can see Chloe had to be in the shots per usual. I originally had it up on the other end of the table but when Chloe came I moved to the other end. Naturally she followed though I was hoping she'd get distracted by Fury or something up that end. NOPE need to be in all photographs.

And since it's in the background, here's my work on Fury. I had to paint him. That lavender armor had to go asap lol It's also all hand painted.

HMM Lidier

So I've always really liked the Lidier since it had such a unique design and a pretty nice Megatron color scheme (Mine is actually nicknamed Megatron though... ) I've actually had this planned about a year ago and even bought the HMM Saix around then as well for it. It took me a awhile to even figure out what base I wanted to choose. Given the size of the Lidier, the Command Wolf or Shadow Fox seemed like the obvious choices, but when I did some sketches using the parts in scale, it looked off. Mostly because Lidier's head is big proportion wise to the rest of it. So then I thought maybe Zero? But it was then too big. Finally I realized the Saix was the perfect fit proportion wise as well as keeping Lidier's beautiful streamline flow. I didn't think of the Saix at first since it has a very definite cheetah look, but with Lidier's mane and adding a few other pieces from Lidier's body onto the Saix, it really helped to bulk it up and feel more lion like, but still looking streamlined.

Like Mugen, I'm glad I waited because now I can do a lot more innovation then simply gluing on parts to make it look like the zoid I want it to. Lidier took a lot of innovation and creativity with parts to pull off so far. For anyone who doesn't have a Lidier, it really doesn't have much of a head that I can simply just put the ball joint in like I've done with all the others. I had to build up a head design for him with keeping it look like the Lider, keep the poseability, and figure out how to pull off his mane pieces to not get in the way. Not exactly easy lol. I esp wanted to keep that back/head mane piece very innovative like the original model and can move separately from the head. Luckily I did figure out how to do it perfectly and have so much range of movement. Also helps give a nice layered look.

And here's some tech demo pics of his poseability. Note that these are not the full range of motion, I just posed some and photographed.

HMM Mugen Liger - Nearly Complete!

The hind leg armor took no time at all to do so I was able to work on the back a little bit adding pieces to fill in the gap. The only things I have left to do is finish the back and add the spike bits in the lower chest armor and he's done! :la:

HMM Mugen Liger - Finished Forelegs

Thu Jun 9, 2016, 5:22 AM

Skin designed & coded by CypherVisor

Honestly didn't have much time to work on him yesterday, but I at least finished the forelegs! I don't think I could be any happier with the results as it really feels like Mugen's, esp with the added pile drivers in the back. I messed around with the hind legs a bit and I think I'm going to have to cut those wires out because they hit the armor pieces that go on the tibia and inhibits its full articulation.

DIY HMM Mugen Liger Update

Wed Jun 8, 2016, 4:23 AM

Skin designed & coded by CypherVisor

Been awhile since I've worked on poor Mugen but I'm back on track on finishing my little demon liger up. I'm just glad it really feels like Mugen and not a Liger Zero CAS. Even the one that's not supposed to be a CAS still just looks like a CAS to me. See the full modification log here

The armor is pretty straight forward, just using the Saber Tiger's original armor (modified) as the attachment point. I also used the Saber's chest armor for the lower half instead of Mugen's. It just fit better while helping to give Mugen his bulkier appearance. I just need to add the little nub spikes at the bottom of it. The hardest part was modifying the back to where the blade arms didn't interfere/inhibit poseability. My solution was to back the backpack unit similar to the Shadow Fox's instead. Not only did it allow the head and shoulders full posibility, but it also gave Mugen a sleeker look with the backpack no longer making Mugen look like a hunchback. There's just a few things I need to add to finish it up. Obviously the gap between the armor in the back area, but also around the neck (which I'm going to do a similar bar to Liger Zero's) I took these pics real late so I didn't do any variety, but I'll get that tonight.

And in case you didn't see any of the earlier WIP photos:
And there's even more on my website There's also a full modification log of all that I've done to create this.

Another pretty amusing post today. Was trying to take some more photos for the zoid site of Jager and Liger Zero EM, but naturally Chloe has to be the center of attention. She's going through a rough time right now because I have adopted a "friend" for her lol She has honestly been ok with the new feline in the apartment. A lot better than I expected at least. The fun part has been keeping them separated to allow Syerra to explore her new space in peace and I don't have to worry about Chloe attacking her. I say fun because I have a studio apartment where the only doors are to enter the apartment and for the bathroom. It's basically two big rooms and the little hall and bathroom. Yay for city living. So I have a baby gate with a large box on top that has been working well. It's really squeezed in place so it can't move and it's to tall for them to jump over. Even though they're getting along fine, I just don't want to chance it. I let each other mingle while I'm around though to get used to one another with supervision. Syerra needed a lot of patience and time since she was previously abused. I'm her third adopter even. I guess others just weren't patient enough with her cuz she's the sweetest little thing ever. She loves being petted and even loves belly rubs. Syerra's just very timid and took forever to come out from hiding. (This is also why I haven't done much art lately on top of crazy time at work). I've also had a lot of help from Sigma-Astra with Syerra. She's very experienced with cats and introducing new feline members into the mix lol

Syerra looks almost identical to Chloe other than the white going up her nose and she also only has a half of a tail. It's funny when she's roaming around cuz she looks like a mini Bobcat.

But anyway, enjoy Chloe being her photobombing self~

Then this happened when I was changing the armors. Just plopped down right in the middle where I take the photos. Once I had the armors swapped, I scooted her but to the corner of the futon.

So even though I shoved her to the corner... we STILL had to photobomb some how. Was hilarious when I was taking the photo since I was looking through the viewfinder and suddenly FOOT.

Rescued Blade Liger

Tue May 3, 2016, 3:46 AM

Skin designed & coded by CypherVisor

I can never resist a good kitty zoid rescue! This time a poor old Blade Liger with broken teeth, lots of HUGE flashes and scarring from being ripped out of the frames. Even though I shaved off all the flashes, I'm going to have to do some gap filling for some of the previous scars. I was interested in getting this one since it was an early release, and thus has the metal claws and teeth. Not too much dust this time at least, just some that you can see got on my coffee table during its reassemble. And of Course, Chloe had to come investigate per usual. I wasn't fast enough to capture her batting its tail xD;

All fixed up!
