Ok, today we'll be doing major characters allied with the main characters.  This is mostly, at the moment, the Mohist school of thought.

Mohists</u>

Duanmu Rong Bio
Twenty-four years old, cleanly beautiful and refined, cold as a refrigerator.  Her medical skills are excellent, she is the Mohists' medical goddess, and lives alone in the beautiful Mirror Lake Medical Manor.  Her weapons are silver needles.  She bears intense hostility to Ge Nie from the Qin kingdom, but after prolonged contact, she slowly changes her opinion.

Generally called "Maid Duanmu" or "Maid Rong" (like Maid Marian).  Yue Er calls her "sister Rong".

Weapon: silver needles
Moves: Flower Rain Silver Needles
Strength Level: 5
Special Skills: medical arts, study of herbs, can cure all sorts of difficult and rare illnesses, it is said that she can revive the dead
Hobbies: developing new medicines
Likes in a man: responsible, has not just a reckless and ignorant courage, a man who knows to cherish life
Favorite color: Green
Favorite food: food cooked with medicinal herbs
Favorite music: sad songs from the Yan and Zhao kingdoms
Most Respected Person: Bian Que, a miracle-working doctor from the Spring and Autumn period (prior to the Warring States period, which has just ended by the Qin conquering all)
Favorite Person: Gao Yue, Duanmu Rong treats her like a little sister, and would die to protect her
Most Hated Person: those violent, murderous swordsmen
Merits: logical
Faults: rather fierce
What Makes Her Happiest: her medical skills are successful, and she cured epilepsy in a Mohist disciple (see Dao Zhi's bio)
Greatest Aspiration: for Princess Gao Yue to be able to live happily

**I have to add my own note here.  This is a sort of spoiler, but I totally saw the Ge Nie and Duanmu Rong pairing from WAY far off.

Gao Jianli Bio
Twenty-eight years old, musician, second highest in skill of the Mohists, directly below the Mohist Giant.  His temperament is melancholy and elegant, his jizhu (an ancient Chinese instrument, see the first intro for a link) piece "Sunny Spring", when played with Snowlady's song "White Snow", is known to be first rate. In the past, he met Jing Ke, with whom he had an instant connection and became best friends.  Later, on the shores of the YiShui River, he played the famed song "The wind is dreary and the YiShui cold, the hero leaves and will not return".  His weapon is the famous Shui Han sword.

Generally called "xiao Gao", which means "young Gao" by his friends. He is based on the historical figure.

Weapon: the Shui Han (or Water Cold) sword hidden in his jizhu. It is listed as seventh in the Ten Famous Swords
Moves: the musical form "Sunny Spring", the fighting moves "YiShui Cold" and "Dreary Wind Break"
Strength Level: 8.5
Special Skills: composing music
Hobbies: jizhu
Likes in a girl: like Snowlady
Favorite color: Blue
Favorite food: the most intense burning-ice wine from the Yan kingdom
Favorite music: "The wind is dreary and the Yishui cold"
Most Respected Person: Jing Ke
Favorite Person: Snowlady
Most Hated Person: Ge Nie
Merits: would die for his friends
Faults: biased
What Makes Him Happiest: the times when he and "big brother" Jing Ke would wander the world
Greatest Aspiration: after completing big brother's last wish, go somewhere far away with Snowlady and henceforth ignore all the world's battles

Xue Nu/Snowlady Bio
Twenty-four years old, the most beautiful professional singer/dancer in the Yan kingdom. Her beautiful voice sings the song "White Snow", which is said to be able to make even the most hardhearted person weep.  She sells her art but not her body, and laughs proudly at kings and nobles, she is also Gao Jianli's lover.  Although the two are not married, they are truly in love, and will accompany each other through life and death.

Her name "Xue Nu" means Snowlady, which is how I translate it.

Weapon: water sleeves, xiao music (xiao is a type of vertical flute)
Moves: Sunny Spring and White Snow, it can make a person formless
Strength Level: 7
Special Skills: composing music
Hobbies: playing the xiao on mountaintops
Likes in a man: a man who understands how to appreciate art, doesn't care for worldly sights, and is isolated from society
Favorite color: Orchid
Favorite food: bamboo shoot tips
Favorite music: Gao Shan Liu Shui (literally, high mountains and flowing water. It's an ancient Chinese song.)
Most Respected Person: Yu Boya, a famous musician from the Spring and Autumn period (Yu Boya is known for smashing his instrument after the death of his friend, who he believed was the only on to understand his music. Yu Boya also played the Gao Shan Liu Shui piece.)
Favorite Person: xiao Gao (Gao Jianli)
Most Hated Person: Ge Nie
Merits: elegant
Faults: ruthless
What Makes Her Happiest: when she is together with xiao Gao
Greatest Aspiration: even if the sky bursts and earth splits, the seas dry and the stones rot, to be with xiao Gao forever

Dao Zhi Bio
Twenty years old, the number one thief in the world, with a slim build, skilled in leaping onto roofs and walking on walls, has outstanding "qing gong" (the art of lightness, i.e. he runs very quickly and jumps very high and easily). Has a naturally foxy disposition, and lecherous.  He's a very realistic person, very afraid of death, often deserts at dangerous times.

His name "Dao Zhi" means Robberfoot. He is based on the folkloric "father of thieves".

Weapon: none
Moves: Lightning Step
Strength Level: 5
Special Skills: qing gong (lightness), he must tie heavy bronze blocks to his legs to avoid speed-running too much and hurting himself/others
Hobbies: young ladies
Likes in a girl: the beautiful yet overbearing type
Favorite color: Pink
Favorite food: seafood
Favorite music: traditional string and woodwind from Jiangnan (near Shanghai)
Most Respected Person: Lie Zi, who is known for his ability to fly on the wind
Favorite Person: Duanmu Rong
Most Hated Person: Ge Nie (apparently everyone hates Ge Nie)
Merits: the gift of gab
Faults: glib-tongued
What Makes Him Happiest: when Duanmu Rong personally cured his epilepsy
Greatest Aspiration: get another big illness, so that Duanmu Rong continuously takes care of him

**note: recently, a really popular boy's love ship has appeared of Dao Zhi and White Phoenix, who will be introduced later, regardless of Dao Zhi's claim to like girls...however, since learning that Dao Zhi likes pink, maybe they have a point.  ^_~

Master Xu Bio
Sixty-eight years old, a withered and skinny elder, a master of swordcrafting, the famous sword "Mo Mei" (Mohist Brow) was crafted his hands.  But something he always took to heart was the number two sword, Yuan Hong (Rainbow of the Pool, belongs to Ge Nie), which was the work of his mother.  He has always hoped to be able to craft a sword greater than Yuan Hong.

Ironhammer Bio
Thirty-five years old, with an unusually stalwart build, the Mohist with the most impatient and explosive disposition.  He uses a set of two giant iron hammers connected with a chain.  He was once a lower officer in the kingdom of Yan, but had a hard time getting along with his colleagues due to his personality, and was harmed many times, nearly dying on the battlefield as bait when he was saved by the Mohist Giant.  From then on, Ironhammer was dead-set on following him.

His real name in Chinese would translate to "Big Ironhammer", but I thought it sounded awkward in English, so I cut out the adjective.

Grandmaster Ban Bio
Fifty years old, died a violent death (?), knows the art of mechanics, was originally a carpenter.  When he was young, an accident caused him to lose an arm, so from then on he began to study and create all sorts of machines.  His first successful creation was making a mechanical arm for himself.  His wish is to create a mechanical bird that can fly for a day and night.  He has done a lot of research, but this has continuously ended in failure.  Ironhammer likes to make fun of him for this, but Grandmaster Ban has a lot of patience.

Grandmaster Ban is totally still alive at the end of season 2, so I have no idea why the official bio has that line about dying a violent death.  Unless there's a DIFFERENT translation for that phrase that I don't know.

Other Mohists</i>
Mohist Giant - we know virtually nothing about him except that he's the most powerful of the Mohists and wears a large bamboo hat that covers his face.  From the pre-release of the second episode from Season 3 (which will be coming out this fall, I believe), it seems like the Mohist Giant will be playing a larger role in the future.

Other Protagonist Characters</u>

Jing Ke Bio
Middle age, male, Jing Tianming's father.  (He is dead at the start of the series, and based on the historical figure.)

Li Ji Bio
Middle age, female, Jing Tianming's mother. (I believe she is also dead at the start of the series.  Her name literally means Beautiful Concubine, or if "Li" is her given name, it could also be Concubine Li.  However, the word "Ji", which means concubine, can also be used as part of a name, so I have just left her name Li Ji.)

Fan Zeng Bio
Elderly, male, a firm personality, has power without using anger.  Is Shaoyu's "Yafu", and is very stern in his discipline of Shaoyu.  (Yafu is a sort of second father. Fan Zeng is based on the historical figure.)

Misc. Protagonist Characters</b>
Uncle Liang - Shaoyu's uncle and guardian.  He travels around with Shaoyu and Fan Zeng.  Based on the historical figure.
Zhang Liang - a representative of the Confucian school, will be introduced in Season 3.  Based on the historical figure.
Fu Nian - a new character from Season 3, supposedly a Confucian leader.  He's got a nice sword.
Xiao Yao Zi - also a new character from Season 3.  From his look, I'm guessing maybe a Daoist?  His name, which is definitely not his real name, literally means "one who is carefree".  There is a historical figure named the same thing, but the historical person lived much later than this story is set, so I'm guessing they're not related.
Mystery Girl - a new character from Season 3 who was in the first preview, where we see her standing on a hill in Miao ethnic clothes.  She has not been officially introduced like the other new characters (i.e. given a wallpaper and listed in the article about new characters--they never really describe the characters anyway).  I'm leaving her under protagonists mainly because there already are too many antagonists, and Season 3 is apparently gaining at least 3 more.

Next will be antagonists, of which there are WAY. TOO. MANY.
  • Listening to: Qin's Moon ending themes
  • Reading: fanfic
  • Watching: Star Trek! (the new one. again.)
  • Playing: Big Fish game demos
  • Eating: pizza
  • Drinking: bubble tea

Hi Aurora :D

I know this comment is a bit late ... hope it doesn't get filtered out or something XD

anyways, here's a random thought,
the official English names for the "Hundred Schools" are misnomers,
here's what I think they really should be called :

Legalists -> Fascists
Confucians (Ru) -> The Gentlemen ( think British )
Daoists -> Anarchists
Yin-Yang -> Diviners
Militarists, Agriculturists etc -> ( well, these weren't distinct ideologies, just groups with expertise on the same areas. Sun Tz was a “Daoist", while Wu Tz was a "Legalist"。 They were both brilliant military tacticians. )

now if we use these names instead of the conventional ones, there'll be less confusion among audiences about what was going on in China during the Warring States period :)

( not sure about the Mohists cos they were quite a diverse group. the closest I can think of is Universalists ... )

all da best !

WTF? Legalists are not fascists, nor are Confucianists just gentlemen. Militarists actually did base their philosophy on military tactics, and weren't just specialists. Please refrain from making comments on things you don't understand.

The treatises that they wrote say otherwise :/

I do understand the difference between ideology, profession, and organisation.

I'm not sure about either of those, but if you aren't going to be swayed, at least stop trying to convince me back.

*glomp* OMG YOU'RE BACK!!! *descends into incoherent bad internet english*

Well, if you REALLY want to know, Gao and Snow hate him because they were friends with Jing Ke, who, supposedly, was killed by Ge Nie. Technically, this SHOULD be why Dao Zhi hates him, but I think Dao Zhi is just jealous cause Duanmu Rong ignores him but is nice to Ge Nie.

And...when we get to villains...his training "brother" hates him because they're supposed to fight to the death over who's the next master of their sect, and Ge Nie pwns his "brother" in pretty much everything ever. So then his "brother"'s entourage hates Ge Nie too...

Whoo, that was long. And, go Star Trek! I thought you'd like Scotty, but my favorite was McCoy. I liked Spock and Sulu a lot too.

I liked McCoy a lot too. Even before he introduced himself as McCoy, I was like, "I like this dude." Chekov was just adorable in a puppy sport of way. We should go see it together if you have time, maybe during final's week. OR, lennox has really cheap movies in the mornings on the weekends. Let me know.

Yes, I am still alive. Do you have a not osu email address? Or a cell number would work too, if you want. I seriously need to fill you in on why I've been absent. Note me.

Hmm...I can do finals week Tuesday night, though maybe I shouldn't see that movie a third time. We could try to do something else?

I thought Chekov was cute too...

Um, you HAVE my not-osu email address AND my cell #. Why a non-osu email?

Well. Anyway. I'll note you.
