Aelia stood on the hill alone, watching the sun setting behind the lush tree line of the forest. The last few rays of sunlight reflected scarlet against the pearlescent white of her skin, making her appear as though she had been bathed in blood. The image made him shudder as he paused at the base of the hill. Delicate, yet sensitive ears twitched ever so slightly before she turned swiftly to face him, prepared entirely for fight or flight.
For a long moment they each stood very still, regarding each other; her with gentle, crystalline blue eyes surrounded by pale lashes, and he with his predatory amber gaze. The tension between them dissipated with her radiant smile and a toss of her head, which sent a cascade of silvery hair flowing over her neck and shoulders.
Laetoli! she exclaimed with a voice like the chiming of bells.
The woman hastened down the hill to meet him, her every movement the liquid grace of a flowing stream. Sw
