Part one of the story here -->Lost in the woods

[…]

The storm subsided quickly and soon the sun started to show its scorching face to the world. The early birds chirped joyfully at the worms coaxed out by the rain and the puddles they’d gratefully use as bathes. Ashkii, eyes burning with tears and nose running like a river of snot, sank into the muddy earth and pine needles below him. The bright white fur of his hood was now dull and filled with dust and filth, not to mention a lot of mud.  He did not want to open his eyes just yet and be confronted with the reality that he no longer knew where to go. The dusk was very fine. Sunlight just barely hitting the top of the mighty trees, giving the place an almost welcoming vibe. He wiped his nose with the back of his glove, only to slather his face in mud. He rapidly took them off his hands and threw them away in an annoyed fashion. The boy stood himself up, ready to face this horrible day. He assumed that the only way out of this terrible situation was to try to trace their steps back home, instead of going deeper into the woods. Feeling a bit less distressed, he turned to his tokota, ready to start his journey back to safety. But Oshkosh was gone.

The piebald beast roamed the still dark forest, zigzagging around trees and muddy puddles. He did not much like the sensation of wet fur, thus ran as fast as possible, hoping to dry it. Suddenly, he could hear his name being called out, time after time. At first, in an annoyed tone, but soon followed by honest pleas and discouraged cries. Oshkosh did have trouble ignoring such primitive calls, but the shadow flying above him seemed more worthy of his attention. A duck, looking to soak in a nice fresh bath of rainwater, was circling around the large pine trees, assessing the perfect landing angle. By the looks of it, the bird did not notice Oshkosh’s presence. Taking his opportunity as a way to unleash his aggravation, the tokota leapt into the air and snatched the duck during its descent.

With no ride home and nowhere to go, Ashkii plumped himself back in the mud, exasperated once more. Clearly this was not the first time this happened and he wondered why he was so surprised that Oshkosh was missing in such a crucial time. He reached out to his dirty gloves and placed them next to him. He then removed his parka, boots and pants. The air was still very frisky and the boy shivered as he walked barefoot in the forest, moving through the trees in nothing but a thin pant-like undergarment. The sensation of his long hair brushing against his bare shoulders and chest was something he rarely had the chance to experience, but he did very much like it. Gathering items around him, the native barely managed to start himself a small fire and rest in a somewhat comfortable warmth, until the sun would rise completely. He tried calling Oshkosh again, but in vain. Taking all of his dirty possessions into his hands, Ashkii washed his clothes and face in what little rain water he could find, before crafting himself a drying rack out of wooden sticks and the tendons used to sow his pants together. Dropping his clothes on the rack set above his modest fire, the long-haired kid was left with an oddly shaped loose piece of caribou skin on his hands, which he used to make a small bag to collect berries and other supplies at hand. He had little hope that his invention would withstand the weight of wet fur and skin long enough for them to be completely dry, but it was worth a try.

Far from one of my cleanest works. I still find my colours a bit wierd, not quite
sure why though, maybe the contrasts. Meh...
