Ladies and gentleman...

We have the honor of presenting...

:bulletpurple::bulletpurple::bulletpurple: Steampunkism :bulletpurple::bulletpurple::bulletpurple:

What is Steampunkism?

It's a fussion between Steampunk and Impressionism. The perfect and unique combination of both elements is what we want from you! :heart:

:bulletpurple: Steampunk: "Steampunk is a sub-genre of fantasy and speculative fiction that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often set in Victorian era England—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date. Other examples of steampunk contain alternate history-style presentations of "the path not taken" of such technology as dirigibles or analog computers; these frequently are presented in an idealized light, or with a presumption of functionality."

:bulletpurple: Impressionism: "A theory or style of painting originating and developed in France during the 1870s, characterized by concentration on the immediate visual impression produced by a scene and by the use of unmixed primary colors and small strokes to simulate actual reflected light."

So now you know the basics, let's go to the thing:

:bulletyellow: The aim: Design a character (or more) using steampunk elements and aesthethics, following the bases of impressionism art movement.
You can create whatever kind of character you want, always respecting the pressence of enough steampunk elements, and applying the use of impressionism in the creation process.

:bulletyellow: Requirements:

1. The art must contain a quite heavy steampunk influence, in form of decorative elements, customes, weapons, transports, etc...
2. The piece must follow the Impressionism art movement. The technique must be clear enough to avoid confussions.
3. Visual artworks only. Digital and traditional.
4. Old artworks are not accepted. All entries must be new and made with this contest's purpose.
5. All the entries must be submitted to the oficial category before November the 20th 2010 23:59 PST.

Official category for Digital Art:  Contests > 2010 > Steampunkism > Digital

Official category for Traditional Art:  Contests > 2010 > Steampunkism > Traditional

6. The non-authorized use of photos, patterns, textures and other resources will leave the piece out of the voting.

:bulletyellow: Judging: Both originality and skills will have the same weitgh while evaluating the artworks. Take in consideration that both requirements, Steampunk and Impressionism, must be present with a quite strong influence in the piece. If the judges think the piece lacks one of these conditions, the artwork wont be qualified to get to the next round.

Ah, for some reason it won't let me submit to the contest folder. I don't know if I'll be able to access the internet as I'm going on a trip tomorrow and will be gone past the deadline.
I'll try to get on, but I've submitted it to another folder for now in case I can't. ^^;

I saw the new deadline, but unfortunately, I was gone when it passed. ^^;
It's not a huge deal if it can't be included, but I would rather like if my submission could count.

I'm having trouble uploading, I get an error message saying: "You may not submit deviations to this category."

Is this still on? Since there's no (steampunk-ish) entries on the folders... :hmm:

I'm seriously thinking of entering this competition.
What's going on with the other entries though? When I first looked there were lots of pictures, some of which were totally unrelated to the contest, then there were a few, all steampunk in impressionist style, but now there're only two and neiher of them fit. Why do actual entries seem to be being removed from the gallery? I don't really want to enter only to have my entry removed from the competition for no obvious reason, and I'd really like to have a chance to look at other people's entries as they're submitted. I like to know what I'm up against!

people seem to always do this with contests, they upload to the wrong album, i think they're just trying to get views, there are a few though, at least for traditional i've got two in there and saw two or three others that looked like they were meant to be there

but yeah i haven't noticed any get removed, that's really weird, mine haven't at least so maybe something just went wrong with the others

yea I noticed that too...whats going on?
I think I might do a painting anyway as its something I'm interested in doing regardless of the competition so I guess I'll just submit it and hope it doesn't get removed like the rest!

This looks really interesting! ^w^
Just asking,
1, For designing characters, do you just draw a person or do you have to write up something about them?
2. FOr traditional, is it possible to use colour pencils?

I'm noticing many entries that are not Steampunk OR Impressionism.
