My Hero: the 5 year old Diabetic

The Back Story:

My kiddo was diagnosed at 4 with type 1 Diabetes. It's been a difficult journey and as we are getting evaluated to get an insulin pump I wanted to document his strength when it comes to his injections, which he does primarily on his own.

The strength he has taught me through all of this is incredible. When he's 13 and having problems at school I want to be able to show this to him and tell him, if you can get through this, you can get through anything.

It's difficult but it does get better. It's totally a normal part of his life now just like it will become for you!

It wasn't easy in the beginning, it broke our hearts giving him insulin while he shouted "No daddy! Why are you hurting me?" as I held him and his father injected him. But as you can see above, he's adjusted.

Wow...I was just diagnosed with type 1 diabetes this year and its already been tough on me.
But just like the 5 year old diabetic, I do what I have to to survive.
When I was in the hospital, there was a 9 month old there with it! I can't imagine what it would be like to have to give a 9 month old shots...wow

I'm in love.
It's impossible to know for certain, but I hope that this picture will be an inspiration to your son in his years to come.
What I do know for certain is that this is and will for ever be an inspiration to me to strive with all my might in my study and later practice medicine.

I think i will for ever be in awe at your son's will and determination. He is amazing, congratulations.

Thank you so much. I get emotional every time I look at this set. I can never say how truly proud of him I am and always will be.

I'm so glad that his story can touch others. The more awareness and inspiration it can spread the better.

So thank you.
