I'm employed by a hospital as a peer support worker in our mental health and addictions unit, and I'm also heavily involved in the hospital's anti-stigma program.
I have to say, I absolutely love your comic. It does an amazing job of portraying some of the horrors that still exist in many of the hospitals.
The staff I work with are good (nobody's perfect, including myself) but I've had dealings with hospitals that were at least as bad as the experiences you portray, and I feel that your work is both meaningful and important.
If you're willing, I'd love to hear more about your own experiences with the system, the responses people have had to your work, the changes you'd like to see in the system, and any experiences you've had with the Mad Pride movement.
I will say that when I discovered your comic I couldn't stop reading it, and I look forward to seeing more! Is any of it in print? If so I'll try to convince my boss to order a copy or two for the unit
If you can recommend any other comics or artists who do a good job of depicting stigma, sanism, or experiences with the medical system, I'd appreciate it! Art has a unique way of breaking down people's walls and open their eyes to new perspectives.
Hopefully you can send a message to me through DA; if not, I'll try to figure out a way to contact you more directly.
