Asylum Squad will probably be coming out of hibernation soon, as I got some work done yesterday with inking.  Sorry about the long hiatus!  But it was worth it, for I have also crafted a much better outcome for the story than initially. -Saraƒin

Why no more updates?  That ill family member was my dad.  He sadly passed away on the 22nd of August.  His passing has kind of destroyed any desire I have of creating anything as of late.  Until that desire returns - no updates.  Sorry, guys. -Saraƒi ...

Sorry about the delays in updates... I was briefly hospitalized because of the stresses of an ill family member and problems with insomnia.  I need this time to focus on self care.  More comics to come! -Saraƒin

I'm employed by a hospital as a peer support worker in our mental health and addictions unit, and I'm also heavily involved in the hospital's anti-stigma program.

I have to say, I absolutely love your comic.  It does an amazing job of portraying some of the horrors that still exist in many of the hospitals.

The staff I work with are good (nobody's perfect, including myself) but I've had dealings with hospitals that were at least as bad as the experiences you portray, and I feel that your work is both meaningful and important.

If you're willing, I'd love to hear more about your own experiences with the system, the responses people have had to your work, the changes you'd like to see in the system, and any experiences you've had with the Mad Pride movement.

I will say that when I discovered your comic I couldn't stop reading it, and I look forward to seeing more!  Is any of it in print?  If so I'll try to convince my boss to order a copy or two for the unit :-)  If you can recommend any other comics or artists who do a good job of depicting stigma, sanism, or experiences with the medical system, I'd appreciate it!  Art has a unique way of breaking down people's walls and open their eyes to new perspectives.

Hopefully you can send a message to me through DA; if not, I'll try to figure out a way to contact you more directly.

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi Andrew!

Sorry for my late reply!  It's been quite the ride at my end recently - many relatives have been quite sick and the stress has been getting to me.  I actually was briefly hospitalized again the other day because of the impact of it on me.  But all seems to be working out now.

Thanks for your message.  Yes, Asylum Squad is in print, by means of self publishing.  If you are interested in purchasing copies of the asylumsquad.ca based series, each collected graphic novel is $22 CDN each.  Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks again - hope to hear from you soon!
