Victorian Girl by asunnyspirit Victorian Girl by asunnyspirit
This was a quick pastel i did (hour or so), im not too happy with it so i would like some C&C, for sure im going to solidify the background, im just a little unsure what direction to take it.

This was based on a stock photo taken from here

Thank you Infrastock

I like the colorful background and the fact that I can see the pastel strokes. The only thing that looks weird to me is her arms. The pose seems a bit awkward. The arm behind her head seems to recede too quickly and the arm on her side seems too far down not to have a glimpse of her left shoulder. But overall, I think you did a great job with this picture. I love the vibrant colors, it brings the piece to life :)

i really like her face, and the coloring...the idea of taking a victorian image and makingit comtamporary pop art is interesting. Background may be a bit busy, but smoothed in it would look great. Im guessing thats why it looks more cleaner from small view.

the colors look surprisingly different in the original, the scan seemed to intesify the overall picture making the background sort of pop out in individual color strokes, i will probably soften that up more and hopefully take a better scan after i rework the thing :P

Im not too worry how the it relates to the picture (that was just giving credit to the reference) i just want it to stand ok on it's own, but i notice the arm looks akward, its been bugging me for a while now

Thanks for the comments you guys, its helped a lot

You've lost a little of her quizzical look here, probably due to how vertical her pose is. Notice that in the photo, her arm is slanted back and her head tilted - without that, there's less motion (and emotion). Also, the background seems a bit busy. It distracts from the model, who should be the focus. In the future, I'd go for less distracting colors on the background so the eye isn't drawn so much to it. :)

If you want me to go really picky on you, her left arm seems a little awkward, probably because of how thin it is compared to the other.

I think the dress is lovely, though, and I like what you've done with the face and hair.
