Dreaming Damnations -Chapter Eighteen, Part One    “So Professor Jr. got drunk off his ass?” the Black Knight asked after returning to Daldrus’s mound-house with Jedda minutes after their own arrival.
Sylvianne and the Rose’s introduction to the rest of the team was neither cheery nor a catalyst for a fight. Jerund had cried himself out of a majority of his emotions by the time they returned with Rook. He awoke every now and then from one of the two spare rooms beneath the ground, mumbling indecipherably before relapsing into his dreams. Balding, tortoise-beaked Daldrus offered a homebrewed remedy to speed up his injury’s recovery, fortunately, and it proved far stronger than the few medicines that actually worked in the world of lunatics outside the dream. Medical practices greatly declined after the mass Lunar Effect, a trip to the hospital now a flirt with death. Myra would have been one of the rare competent ones in the medical field had she not been chosen as an Alyss.
Dreaming Damnations -Chapter Eighteen, Part Two    Surprisingly, she managed to find sleep after retiring to her blanket and pillow on the floor. Even with the paw of a large Cat draped over her in a feline hug as her warm breath tickled the back of her neck and the Black Knight’s dark hair brushing her face as he slept with Jedda in the ‘girls’ room. Komako used the Unicorn as a pillow as she slept horizontally two feet below their feet. She couldn’t recall at what point the sound of the room’s occupants’ breathing –light snoring in the Black Knight’s case –transformed into the ticking of unseen clocks in the obstreperous, surrealistic dream world, but she could hardly have wished for better timing.
Every hidden thing she almost seemed to sense in the dense mist evaded her path without truly moving. Any detail she actually managed to decipher amidst the brume soon eased out her memory. She coasted along throughout this realm paying no heed to the tick
Dreaming Damnations -Chapter Twenty, Part One    Narcissa felt Rook stiffen as if a knife’s point was pricking his back. Whatever it was he said under his breath after breaking contact with her lips was drowned out by the Crow’s cries and a high-pitched scream impossible for anyone not staring at death’s cadaverous countenance to mimic. Sylvianne’s horrified scream. Rook withdrew his arms from her, holding up his good one for the Crow bursting past the enlacing branches to alight on after dropping his quiver and bow and shrinking her size. Her words devolved into agitated, barking caws as her wings flailed in emphasis of the situation’s severity and he feathers ruffled up.
“I’ve told you before the element of surprise only lasts until you attack,” Pandora stated seriously.
Her eyes watched her Alyss from the early morning gloom between where two skinny trees stood tiptoe on their tangled roots like sylvan ballerinas. Her shoulder bag appeared on
Dreaming Damnations -Chapter Twenty, Part Two    The Crow pulled off an almost dance-like series of maneuvers, making sure her own body remained between the pursuing arrow and Rook. Jedda jumped back from the swing of Meber’s twin blades after picking herself up, returned her sparth to the bottomless tin can on the makeshift sling behind her, and formed a series of gestures aimed in no particular direction, but rather meant for all directions at once. Narcissa had spent enough time with Jedda and her armored translator to pick up on quite a bit of sign language. Her arms vanished first, securing a hold on her ally from beneath her arms. The remainder of her evanesced with her separated limbs and their passenger. Rook started to protest when he saw them take shape from the materializing black wisps, but was cut off as the Crow became ensnared by the canopy of trees and fell beneath the verdant roof with loud cracks, snaps, and rustling from the leaves.
Jedda formed her arms into a cross to block the a
