Spike dagger

I found one broken farmyard pitchfork and noticed that centerspike is still in very good shape. It was a quite strong looking steel so i deside to make some kind of dagger from that old thing and begin to forge it to new more square shape.

Material was not thick enough for medieval rondel blade, but i have seen some pictures from renaissance stiletto daggers with very narrow blades, so i change my original idea a little bit.

That handle style is also not very typical for traditional stilettos, so it's now only my own simple combination of many historical dagger types like misericorde, stiletto and poignard etc. (Length is 42 cm and it weight about 205 g.)

Can I add a suggestion? The wooden handle is a perfect accent to the steel. I would say, though, if you carve the twist to match up with the lines on the end cap,it will bring your work to the next level! Just that little attention to detail makes the difference between quality work (already you!) to art.

Thanks again for the faves. I already tested it before i riveted the buttcap tight, but i really liked more from this present position between the lines. :P

If I want to use matching pommel with spiral shaped handle in the future, I'm probably going to file some kind of spiral grooves also in the metal part. In that way it looks better than just straight lines in the end of curves..

Do you watch Game of Thrones? It would be great if you made the swords from that. You'd probably have to make them slightly different with similar but not the same names to avoid copyright issues.

Thanks for adding this dagger to your favouriters.
I watch that tv-show and have read most of the books, but it's usually more fun to make own designs than copy some objects from tv. :)

wonderful piece, and a great idea for recycling old farm tools.

Yeah, it's maybe good time to forge old plows again to swords. :D

that is totally awesome I love the spiral pattern on the hilt and the design of the blade, it's not the type of thing you see everyday that's for sure.
