Clockpunk pendants 6 by Astalo Clockpunk pendants 6 by Astalo
(Robot shaped is actually a brooch and not pendant..)

These are probably my most complex steampunk style jewelry works to this day. I made them from old clock parts, coins, copper/brass/silver plates and wires what i attach together with silver solder or brass/silver rivets.

More pictures from them and two coins what i cut for the material:

Lol.. I have already some kind of preview picture in my scraps, if you liked to see what is coming. astalo.deviantart.com/art/Stea… I don't know if i'm really going to finish that pendant set, because the whole project has been in hiatus state over 3 years now, but i really wish that i can find good inspiration and time for completing the last missing pendant after so long time.
For example making that cosmonaut pendant taked about 7-8 days, so these more complex jewelry pieces are usually quite hard and tressfull things to make. I don't even know if can i recycle some watch parts for the helmet or do i have to made whole pickelhaube thing from scratch. Atleast that option is going to be total nightmare..

Let's hope that everything goes right, because three moustached steampunk gents will look probably quite epic together. =P

On tämä kyllä hienon näköinen, tuossa aikaisemmin kerroit että kolikoita käytät pohjina/osana työtä,  tuli tässä mieleen, että olis kyllä hienoa, jos saiskin juotettua jotakin kiinni kolikkoon itse kolikon kuvan kärsimättä :) Noita kolikkoon tehtyjä kaiverruksia on jo omansa kokoelma, mutta harvempi on mitään kolikoihin juottanut?

Scraps osiossani on kuvia joistakin keskeneräisistä kierrätysprojekteista ja muusta erikoisemmasta. Kolikkojakin muutamissa.

Siellä on hyvin pitkät perinteet eriväristen metalliyksityiskohtien liittämisestä toisiinsa. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM0VnL… Muun muassa tiikerin raitojen tekeminen tuossa tsubassa.

I usually dismantled old broken watches what I get from clocksmiths. Whole watch frames are some times quite large for pendants so i had to cut them to pieces, but most of the smaller clock parts don't need any modification. I also cut suitable parts from old coins, brass plates and wires if i need something special. That kind of collecting & planning phase can take weeks or even years if i don't find good enough material for some more special design what i want to make. There is usually about 50 different parts in one pendant. (Some times also more or less..)

When the whole mockup start to look nice, i take some copper or brass plate and move all the parts on top of it. I also put some silver soldering paste in between all parts and solder them together with butane torch. It's going to be one solid piece after that and next i need to cut of the extra "back plate" and clean all parts where is spilled some extra silver solder. I can also carve or drill some extra details on the surfaces, or add small lines, rivets, stones or something other patterns like that. (I also put my own logo on the backside)
I use also different polishing and patinating techniques in the end, because i just love that contrast between dark patina and clean metal surfaces. :)

There is picture from my workbench if you want see some of my material stashes and upcoming projects. astalo.deviantart.com/art/Stea…

I have also new quite elaborate steampunk jewelry set coming in later, when i find some time to make that pickelhaube gentleman. astalo.deviantart.com/art/Stea…

That is part of three piece pendant set, what i started to make almost three years ago. First two (Mustache robot  & Cosmonaut) finished quite fast in 2013, but i lost my inspiration soon after that.. Let's hope that my "steampunk passion" start to flow again in this winter and i can finish the whole set..

Yeah let's hope so. It's really sad when you lose motivation for a project. I know that too well. :P

Thanks for the compliments and also for the watch. :)

These more complex steampunk pieces are more like personal hobby and "show pieces" what I'm never going to sell, because making them takes usually a lot of time. It can take months (between some other projects) when i collect some materials for one more special piece, and try to modify all small parts to some reasonable combination before I can solder them together. There is one work in progress picture in my scraps section.

Nice to hear it. I saw very impressive knifes in some steampunk blog just few days ago, so there is a link for the original page. vanbarnettart.com/gallery/3141…

I wish that i can also find some time for making complex looking steampunk blades like that in the future, but i have experiences only with quite simple historical knife designs..

Thanks for adding this set to your favourites.

Lenin part in that pendant is cut-out from soviet era coin. Other half is from wrist watch frame and there is also some random bits from bigger clocks as well.. Backside is plain brass sheet and I attached all the parts together with butane torch and silver solder.
