Guidelines and submissions

Assemblage-Artist now has 6 administrators hogret, bugatha1, wildearthlingboy, DianneHoffmanArt, BGDodson and LizCohn who sharing the administrative tasks of this group. We are just thrilled to be the first assemblage art group on DA, after lizole lobbied for an assemblage category, which DA heads finally granted.

Guidelines for the submission of works

*A-A is for members who make traditional assemblage art. No digital collage or digital assemblage.
* Featured works will be voted on by the founder and co-founders, two out of four carries the vote.
*We are looking for those artists who are navigating a unique and imaginative use of images and objects, creative execution and overall visual impact.
*The quality of your photograph may also affect your submission, please try to submit portfolio quality photos of your works.
*limit to 3 deviations per week
*Turning down a submission is not intended as a discouragement or criticism of the artist or their work. Comments will not be given on declined works.

Guidelines for Membership

*A-A membership is by invitation and is also voted on by founder and co-founders
*Artists may request membership, but to be a contributor they must be an assemblage artist.
*A-A members are encouraged to bring to the attention of the group, assemblages that are hidden in other categories such as mixed media, sculpture, miscellaneous, etc.
*A-A members also are encouraged to ‘gently police’ the DA assemblage category by offering the suggestion of the correct category on deviations that have been carelessly dumped into assemblage.

About Assemblage-Artists

This group is about traditional assemblage. Assemblage is an artistic process in which a 3-D artistic composition is made from putting together 'found' objects. The found objects can be anything man made or natural such as scraps of wood, old shoes, tin cans, mechanical toys, bones, or thousands of other odd items. The artist may have found or purchased these things. Shadow boxes, junk art, construction, bricolage, combines, and sculpture are some other names for assemblage.

Assemblage differs from collage in being a 3-D artwork, whereas collage is 2-D, though the boundary between the two can be blurred. Any submitted piece on that blurry line will be subject to the administrator's discretion and or group discussion. Digital assemblage will not meet the criteria for this group; it must be three-dimensional, sculptural work. A collection of items such as dolls or a grouping of images like a sketch dump also does not meet the guidelines for this group. If you are not sure what sculptural assemblage is, look into the combines of Robert Rauschenberg and the boxes of Joseph Cornell for a start. Other known assemblage artists include Kurt Schwitters, Louise Nevelson, Jeff Wassmann, and Betye Saar.

Membership is by invitation.

A great online exhibition to check out ! :+)

Curious if I can apply... I take technology apart and make 3D assemblage with the parts. My work has been described as structural poetry. Looking forward to your response. I am working on a new website so its not currently up. But it will be very soon. www.hackercreations.

Hello. I make little stop motion clips featuring little creatures I make out of found objects. Could my work be included here?

I would say go ahead and submit it. You'll need to get a couple of the admins to approve, but just go ahead and submit and see what happens!

You guys are so inspirational. I found an old wooden drying rack with ages of character at the Salvation Army the other day. Your group has given me many ideas on how to use it!
