Wondering how I'd be able to translate these type of line art into having colours, sticking to the mermay theme.
It became a balance of muting colours enough to keep the lines relevant. But the lines weren't exactly intended to hold colours. Just tried to see how it'd go.

So much for using more heavy fish based elements. Ended up just looking at Queen Novo from the movie for this. I guess I got caught up in having to make a bigger seapony. Hadn't made Luna yet this year, so she won out over Celestia.

Anyhow, it's fun doing the shadow shapes in the lines. It's like some fresh air after having to figure out shadows while painting (basically sculpting it out in 2D). It has a different side mentality when looking at where and how, which in turn could carry over to painted/shaded stuff, tho.

Absolutely beautiful work as always, Monkey!!!!!!! I REALLY love this style that you did for Luna, and I love the toned background that you did!!!! makes me think of a traditional pencil or pastel drawing ^^
