New addition for my Season 6 Episode Art!
Season 6, Episode 23: Where the Apple Lies
For more info on my episode art: MLP:FIM Season 5 Episode Art Streams

That little Applejack! I just had to, had to make her. Totally no bias. It did turn out a bit more darker themed than I thought, but I wanted to include something tied to the story a bit more than just multi pony tailed skinnier younger Applejack.

The extra freckles make up for the missing hat, thankfully. But it's just so much fun to see her in yet another age and time of her life. We've seen Applejack so often in such ways, telling a story of the past. It never gets old...

It also showed that Applejack has cared for the farm for quite a while. Something she's shown a lot in her current day and age. It's nice to see that. But it's also fun to hear who's actually running the farm haha. Applejack has a lot of say, but in the end Granny remains good ól Granny. Showing them ponies how it stands.

Filthy did do a bit of a mean trick, putting a young pony like that in such an ultimatum. While Applejack's lies were nothing to be proud of, and really got out of control, the underlying reason was a pretty serious one. But it was nice to see Granny show Filthy Rich who's really in need of that deal, hah. He may be worse off than the Apples. Well, both would be. That's business for ya, gotta keep your 'business partners healthy as well, so all can benefit.

Anyhow, it was quite the enjoyable episode, not just because Applejack... There's also Big Macs story part to it of course, and little snippets of fun here and there.

She certainly was an adorable full-time liar. She's lucky the Riches didn't lose their shit when her game collapsed.

Love both the painting and comments you made about it and the episode. It really did show how much AJ cares about her farm. Yeah, it was wrong for her to lie, but her heart was in the right place for most of the episode. She was just afraid of losing a valuable business partner for Sweet Apple Acres.

I do wish that they had at least mentioned where their parents were or why they were gone. Still, this is one of those episodes I'll keep coming back to (totally no bias here either, haha).

This looks great, but it also gives out a Silent Hill vibe.

The visual metaphors deserve special mention in this pic. The vines at her feet, the dark gloomy sky and clouds, the rain. I'm impressed!

Awesome work. It was a good episode. But that hospital scene... with all those patients... was kinda dark. And that reference (the twins sisters holding hooves) of The Shining? Oh my gosh.

Awesome art. It was such a great episode. It's almost unreal, people are saying that season six is one of the weakest seasons, but in my opinion, the last actual bad episode was 28 Pranks Later and that aired ages ago. I've enjoyed every single episode that came after it, and the finale was excellent as well. Now all I need is Top Bolt to not suck and season six might actually end up as my second favorite season along with season two.

About this episode, the only thing I didn't like was the absence of the Apple parents and the total lack of explanation for it. Apple Bloom had obviously not been born yet, since Diamond Tiara hadn't either, so logically the Apple parents were still alive, but nowhere to be seen as usual. I mean, I totally expected them to not show up, but I hoped that we'd at least get some mention of them. Why were Big Mac and AJ arguing about who would take over the farm one day if their folks hadn't kicked the bucket yet? Were their parents perhaps traveling salesponies who spent a lot of time on the road and therefore not interested in running the family farm like it's been hinted at before? If so, it would have been nice to finally get that confirmed.

Anyway, everything that happened in the episode itself was awesome. AJ's lies were terrible and somewhat cringy, but I managed to enjoy them. That final scene at the hospital was both hilarious and touching. Too bad Big Mac learned his "lesson" a little too well, but I guess they had to explain his monosyllabic running gag somehow.

All in all, it was one of this season's finest episodes. 9/10.

Yeah, this episode was a puzzler when it came to figuring out the Apple family timeline. While part of me appreciates that it didn't destroy too many headcanons, a bigger part of me would've liked some confirmation of the parents' whereabouts.

It is possible that Diamond Tiara and Apple Bloom are more than a year apart in age. If we just go by the way the Cake twins haven't seemed to age in more than a year (since they clearly existed as babies for two separate Hearths Warmings) we may conclude that they age more slowly than humans. So Bloom may have been already born in this episode's flashback. It's possible that other family members were looking after her while AJ, Mac, and Granny Smith had their hooves full dealing with the apple blight. Or maybe it was Granny Smith's narrative choice while telling the story to leave out AB to simplify it.

Or I'm way overthinking this. :iconapplejackshrugplz:

I screamed when Granny almost cut Big Mac's leg off
