Played a bit more with my ship between cleaning and binging Game of Thrones on the free HBO weekend.

She's got saucer markings now, gravitational thruster packages on the saucer (why would they use a conventional thruster system when they have grav plating and artificial gravity?  In a ship this small keeping that much spare fuel for the thrusters wouldn't be practical either way) along with the running lights. And she's finally got an impulse engine.  I might refine the grill after I import it into DAZ cause it's pretty much on the thin side right now.

I started adding some detailing to the secondary hull. Tried a refinement on the torpedo/probe launchers but I think I'll need to rebuild them as it didn't quite work as well as I thought it would.

I am not done with the saucer as it's going to have windows, but I wanted to work on the rest of the ship a bit first as there's going to be a LOT of interior work on the saucer between the corridor placement as well as room arrangements before I put any windows into her hull.

Certainly. :D

Very Nice!!  A great design! Seems like it could be either a civilian ship or possibly a medical ship.  Or even a light science vessel.  I realize you decided to make a civilian ship but this basic design could potentially be outfitted for multiple purposes.

Yeah that was part of my thinking behind it. Good multi-purpose craft, cheap to build and maintain but easily usable by just about anyone. Starfleet would obviously beef her up with at least one phaser bank for a military version.

Practical multipurpose use.  A great idea.

To think this started with me wanting something small but less cramped than the Archer class. ;)

To get an idea of ship sizes, I remember reading that the NX-01 had a crew of 83.  The DS9 DEFIANT also had about 83 or 84 for a crew compliment.  The Enterprise "D" had exactly 1,012 crew aboard.  The Enterprise "E" had only 875 standard.  The Voyager had 141 standard.  The Enterprise "D" which supposedly could carry a max capacity of 1,400 total including crew and passengers in an Emergency.   The DS9 style Runabouts could carry a crew of 6 to 8 and a max limit for evacuations of 20 at most including the crew itself.  The Enterprise "A" was the same specs for crew as the original 1701 which was a standard crew of between 415 to 435 depending on mission and class variant.  The emergency capacity of Enterprise "A" was 700 total and then only for as short a time as possible.  the Excelsior would have had a standard crew of 600 and a emergency capacity of about 900 give or take a few.  The Reliant supposedly would have had a standard crew compliment of 310 to 320.  I do not have the specs for Reliant's emergency capacity.  The newer Saber Class is listed with a crew of about 200 standard.  The Norway class would be about 240 standard.  The Akira class (one of my favorite ship classes) is supposed to have a crew of about 800, just a bit smaller than the Sovereign class ships at 875 as I stated.

Well I'm going with it running on a minimum crew of 3. 1 Engineer, 1 Helmsman, and a back-up trained for both 'cause people need to sleep. That's bare bones, no emergencies, no nothing. Ideally, she'd have a crew of 8 to 10 and could accommodate up to 20 passengers comfortably with double bunks for some. I went in with a 'working class' ship mentality, so I kind of used an Alaskan crab boat as my initial guide. LOL.

That idea of a sea ship crew, a crab boat, makes sense for a civilian vessel comparison, I mean.  A functional commercial or private ship.

Definitely. Trying to keep it grounded while I'm sorting it all out. ;)  My original thought was something like the Millennium Falcon for Trek but then I realized we had that with the Archer, but I wanted something a bit more, I don't know, something more along the lines of a mini-Fleet ship instead of the cramped Archer.

I do have a few more ideas for light freighters that don't look like the merchant man from Star Trek III, but aren't quite the floating bricks from TOS or TNG either. I need them to be warp capable merchant vessels with a bit of style, dammit!  ;)

Thanks! :)  I'm far more comfortable working on interiors so this is a nice challenge for me.
