Thank you for the awesome cover!
Do you handle all of the design and typography for these projects, too?
I handle everything to do with the cover, but I know nothing of the interiors.
Font wise, do you purchase your fonts, or use royalty free versions? I know we're getting a little technical here-- I'm sorry if I'm being invasive! I'm just getting into book design, and typography drives me nuts. Finding the right font feels like pulling a needle from a haystack.
Oh, I definitely use royalty free. The client isn't going to want to pay extra to buy a font and I certainly don't want to have a chunk taken out of my earnings, so I always go with something free. What works for me when looking for fonts is having a clear vision in my head first of what I'm looking for, maybe even make a sketch of it. Then I'll know it when I see it Otherwise yeah, it's overwhelming. Remember, too, if you don't need a lot of type you can always manually tweak a base font into something closer to what you want. You are the master of your design.
Love the cover design.
Ooooh! =3 I wanna read it too!
So many characters and yet such stunning composition! I wanna read it too.
Ashley, my brain is in a fog today. Please take my last post as the enthusiastic high compliment it was intended to be; instead of the murky drivel it appears to be now it is posted.
"Well done" seems such an understatement regarding your work these days; but it is very much "Well done".
I know it's not. but. it reminded me of Futurama! (I have an habit of seeing things that isn't there...) Great drawing, I love your work!
